A manhunt was underway after a pregnant woman in her 20s was found stabbed to death in a house in Bradford.

Police said they were treating her murder as a “domestic-related incident”.

Bradford’s Telegraph and Argus newspaper reported that the woman’s unborn child did not survive the attack. She was reportedly about six months pregnant.

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Dunkerley, of West Yorkshire Police’s homicide team, said: “The body of a woman was found by police and paramedics inside a property on Holker Street. She had suffered fatal stab wounds.

“While the murder investigation is at an early stage we are treating this as a domestic-related incident. Inquiries are currently ongoing to trace a man in connection with the death.”

He tried to reassure local people that it was not thought anyone else was at risk.

“This was a very serious incident and will understandably cause a considerable amount of distress and upset amongst the local community,” Mr Dunkerley said.

“To reassure local people we have increased patrols by neighbourhood officers in the area and I do not believe there is any wider danger to members of the public.”

Police did not confirm that the woman was pregnant.

Local people told the Telegraph and Argus that the woman had two children, aged four and three, who were thought to have been in the house at the time of the attack, which happened shortly before 5pm on Sunday.

A friend, 42, cried as she told the paper: “She was a very good girl. She was just talking to me last night about going to Ikea on Monday. I was going to take her.

“I cannot believe it. She was so sweet, always laughing and joking.”
