Couldn't put my finger on what this series was lacking at first, but now I realise that the problem is that there is no character development whatsoever.
Everyone is more or less the same now than when we saw them on launch night. Friendships have hardly, if at all, changed. The housemates are all still fairly bland and we have not learned much about what they are really like. It's all very stagnant and there is no fluctuation in what we're seeing. Does anyone else agree?

Favourite housemates if a series is excluded, then I haven't watched it or don't currently have a favourite. Spoiler: |

It'd be nice to just see casual conversations to be honest. Everything is geared towards an explosion that never seems to go off.

All we ever see is bitching, cuddles and tasks trying to engineer drama.

Because all we ever see nowadays is;
"11:21 am. Jade and Marc are arguing." "4:06 pm. Marc is in the diary room, talking about Jade." "9:15 pm. Chloe and Danny are in the bedroom, bitching about Marc." "11:04 pm. Jack is angry." Rather than; "3:02 pm. Craig and Darren are talking about what they usually have for dinner." "5:12 pm. Derek has called a house meeting." "10.16 pm. Nikki is in the Diary Room." Exactly. Even last year we could point out who was friends with who but now it just seems everyone's ok with each other until BB like messes it up

I'd say I want her for Head Producer.. but then again I love how she presents the show and it's unlikely Davina would be back.

I agree, and I don't think LF is the issue. The house dynamics are very stagnant.
Actually, not so sure on character development... For me, Jade, Chloe, Cristian, Marc, Joel and Nick have all developed... But not as much as in previous years I guess. Last edited by TomC; 15-06-2015 at 04:17 PM. |

Of course the live feed is the issue. It's 5 weeks in and I still don't really know any of these people. I knew more about and cared more about Bubble and Dean after watching one night of them keeping a camp fire going on the live coverage. This was in the first 3 days of that show.

Yeah I agree. Good point.
Mainly it's due to the endless interference from the producers. Evicting the 4 HMs and replacing them has kinda shocked and frozen the remaining HMs. So they have all shrunk back into their shells which has also stunted the natural growth of the house relationships. It's put them all on the back foot. It's a bit like uprooting a tree as it is growing - it won't produce fruit at it's natural pace. Also there are some fairly boring people in there. Watching them on the 'live from the house', they all become excited when talking about their favourite burger/fried chicken outlets but not much else interesting chat going on. The cure? More intelligent and strange HMs and less interference in the flow of the show from producers. Have VOTE to SAVE (Not vote to EVICT) and that keeps the controversial ones in. Then let it evolve naturally. Having said that, BB has done a good job this year bringing in Marc and the legendary HMs to shake it up a bit but I agree with the OP - I do miss the old skool BB where things played out a natural pace. |

I don't think it's just LIVE FEED.
BB14 didn't have much but we had Dexter and Gina going from villains to heroes, Callum and Dan going gradually insane etc. BB15 had Ashleigh going from quiet sidekick to chief Helen antagonist, Kim going from fembot to stooge. BB16 has Jack being a bit grumpier. Everyone else is basically the same as they were on launch night. |

the cast is really lacking, especially the men who all seem to be neutered pre-teens

Half of that was probably adverts anyway, so I can only imagine watching snippets of livefeed throughout the day being so much better.

Chloe was great around the time Marc entered, but ever since then she's gone back to how she was before.

As Told by Troy
|
It's because production is ridiculous impatient and are obsessed with getting IMMEDIATE results. There were plenty of complex relationships building before the quad eviction, but production wasn't pleased because nobody was shouting at maximum volume that someone's a fat **** or a dirty slag. The quad eviction just killed everything that the show was building up, and this BB Legends stuff isn't helping either. The show is just being simplified to thoughtless and banal conflict and it's really sad.
It's not all production's fault though. The high ratings of the past CBB (for whatever reason, I thought it was complete ****) have left production thinking that having renegade clowns running around like Perez Hilton will help bring in the ratings, and the slight ratings increase after the quad eviction will just further validate the idea that the show was BORING and like GRANDMA'S TEA PARTY even though it wasn't at all. I don't know, I'm just at the point where the show is getting more and more disheartening to watch and I might be ready to say goodbye for good. The show's MO has clearly turned into "let's insert as much blunt conflict as possible," and the show constantly seeks to achieve this through deplorable characters like Jim Davidson, Katie Hopkins, Perez Hilton, Helen, and Marc because they tell it like it fookin is, apparently. It's just getting to the point where the values that the show is trying to push are more and more misaligned with mine, and watching this just makes me feel kinda icky.

..to me it seems as though production want a programme that viewers can
dip into any time watching single episodes Mark L |

The only thing that drives the program is interaction and if they are allowed to be left in bed all day and have no drams or storylines to deal with, they will radar dive their way to the finals and its boring. BB hasn't got a clue how to create storylines, they would rather spend hours chasing Nick and Harry around the bedroom hoping for a fumble.
Its not the HM's that are boring, its the producers fault for being lazy and uninventive. |
