Channel 5 has permanently axed repeats of Big Brother 2015 from its daytime schedules due to ‘explosive content’, bbspy can confirm – despite MTV and TV3 continuing to air pre-watershed edits.
Throughout the series, the broadcaster has aired a repeat of the previous night’s episode of the show on weekdays at 12.15pm on C5, and daily at varying times on 5*.
But from this Monday (22nd June), the afternoon slots on both channels will be replaced by late-night reruns at around 3am daily on C5 for the remainder of the series.
A show spokesperson explained to bbspy: “We have moved the daytime repeats to 3am as the content in the show is too explosive for daytime viewing.”
Although this is a more inaccessible timeslot, it does fall during the watershed hours of 9pm-5.30am, meaning C5 can use it to air Big Brother in its unsanitised form.
However, Sky EPG listings for next week reveal that repeats on MTV – which begun airing Big Brother in January after C5 was taken over by its parent company last year – remain in their pre-watershed 7pm timeslot, meaning bosses will still have to produce a daytime-friendly edit.
Ireland’s TV3 will also continue to air its Big Brother repeats at 8.00pm on 3e, outside its self-imposed 9pm watershed.
This suggests that C5 may have other motives for axing its daytime repeats. It is thought they are attracting poor ratings, as the current series is recording record low numbers.
At the time of writing, Timebomb has an overnight average rating of just over 1million viewers – down 200,000 on last year’s Power Trip.
C5 has dropped daytime Big Brother repeats for ‘explosive content’ in the past, although only in one-off instances.

That's just stupid (not the axing of the repeats, that's understandable. Moving them to 3AM though is beyond a joke).
