Default Amsterdam with school.

So if anybody's wondering why I wasn't online from Wednesday to yesterday afternoon (I doubt anybody was ) But I was away with school in Amsterdam. I just thought I'd share my experience with everyone in case they were thinking of going in the future or have been there themselves.

So we drove down Wednesday afternoon to Hull to catch the ferry over to Rotterdam in Holland. The ferry was a P&O one and was called 'The pride of Rotterdam' it was nice the cabins were tiny though but the beds were comfy enough. The food wasn't great and I think it was expensive something like £22 for breakfast and dinner on the ferry. It was a buffet so I just got a Chicken Kiev and chips but the chicken kiev's weren't that nice so I left them. Then we had some free time there's a few things to do they have cabaret, a cinema, Starbucks, a play area about four shops and then loads of bars. So you couldn't really complain about being bored and we just had to meet at a point at eleven before going to bed.

The next day we woke up at seven and then a breakfast buffet was on I just got two hash browns which were actually surprisingly nice. We then got a coach into Amsterdam and went straight to the Anne Frank house museum. I cried when in there as it was very moving and inspiring and just so sad. We then watched a short film at the end with people who knew her or celebrities etc talking about her and what an inspiration she is. We then went for Dinner in the square and me and my friends just went and bought a McDonalds. We then got to the coach to the Jewish Quarters of Amsterdam and went in the theatre where Jews used to go which was bombed by the nazis. It was again very moving and sad. We then drove to our accommodation which was a youth hostel. The youth hostel was not as bad as I thought it would be but still wasn't nice. We had to make our own beds and they were really uncomfy but the rooms were a lot bigger than the ones on the ferry and had windows. We then ate dinner at the youth hostel. I ate chips again for tea. We then had to wash up after ourselves before having free time from seven till eleven again at the youth hostel. There was a bar, a pool table, table football and a small sort of park are with swings and slides. It rained terribly though that night and there was storms.

Friday morning we woke up at the youth hostel had to strip our beds and go down for breakfast. I didn't like anything! I just had two glasses of apple juice. We then drove to a war cemetery from WW2 which was really interesting and we lay a reef down and were all given a Poppy on a cross each which we could put in any grave we liked or wanted to put in I put mine in a Jewish one which said 'He died so that his race could live'. We then drove into another town to go for dinner and have some free time again me and my friends just went to McDonalds. Finally we went to a concentration camp. The concentration camp felt quite creepy and weird and made me cry a lot learning what happened there from the tour guide. A story about seventy two women being locked in a tiny room made me sob as ten of them died as a result. We then got a coach back to the ferry to go home. It was the same ferry but the food was nicer that night so I decided to get a chicken tikka masala with rice and naan bread. The room had a window! Luckily I didn't feel as claustrophobic this time

We then woke up at six! Went down for breakfast and got the coach home.

All in all I really enjoyed the trip and would go again but I would have liked to have had some more free time as we hardly had any

....ahhh, I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip, Lucia...Amsterdam is one of my most favourite places in the world to visit.....I agree, Anne Frank's house/museum is such an inspiring place to visit and totally moves you to tears....another museum is the Van Gogh museum if you do get to go again...being surrounded by his paintings/his passion/his torture/pain is overwhelming in emotion as well...
