So I started watching Survivor with Season 29 as it was on when I became interested in it. Then weirdly I went back to Season 19 (God knows why I picked this one) and have now watched Seasons 19-26 and 28-30, have done it in a weird order. So now simultaneously I'm watching Season 1 & 27.

Here's my thoughts on each season-

Season 19- What a great series, Russell really was the one keeping it alive and Natalie I thought actually was a deserving winner. Apart from that Shambo annoyed me and Mick was irrelevant. Biggest move was taking out Laura- brilliant watching.

Season 20- This one takes the crown for my favorite, loved it from start to finish and watched it twice! Do think Parvati was more deserving than Sandra but maybe that was to do with the Jury. Again, Russell really did make this season!

Season 21- Boring. I mean why did Fabio even win? Such a lame season with minimal game-play, as soon as Brenda went it became boring and Jane was the only thing keeping it alive. Difficult to follow after Season 20 though.

Season 22- The worst season for me. Awful. Rob basically won it on day one and the only reason he won the season was because everyone else was utterly useless anyway! I found Phillip unbearable to watch and Matt was only one of the really likeable people but didn't really get a fair shot. The redemption island twist was poorly executed. Andrea really redeemed herself in Season 26 mind you!

Season 23- Such a weird season, I enjoyed it but it became more of a holy thing and all about 'should I actually be playing survivor or not because is it right' and everyone seemed to scared to make moves. Saying that I liked Brandon and Cochrane was bearable (less so in 26), Sophie was a deserving winner too.

Season 24- Towards the end I knew that bloody Kim had won it. I mean it was so obvious and I found myself wanting Sabrina of all people to win over her because she became quite cocky. I really didn't like the 'One World' twist though there were some entertaining characters like vile Colton. I liked Troyzan as well and surprisingly Jay was one of my favourites but the girls sticking together got through for once, and it was quite surprising.

Season 25- Lisa was brilliant. Denise not so much. It really did feel like the edit was toward her and Malcolm for the whole season and for some reason I really didn't get or like Malcolm and why everyone seemed to adore him. There were some interesting moves and it was an alright season that I actually enjoyed.

Season 26- Why did Cochrane win again? I thinK Dawn deserved it more. Brenda was amazing this season and so was Andrea who seemed like a different woman after the travesty that was 22! I really was rooting for Reynold and Eddie though also and after Reynold and Andrea went in the same episode it did seem like the edit was looking to make Cochrane the next 'big game-player' when really he didn't do too much. Feel bad for Fran. The reunion was a train wreck- stop Boston Rob pls.

Season 27- Watching this now so no spoilers please but am LOVING IT! The redemption island twist is actually well executed this time!

Season 28- Am going to re-watch this season soon because I know Jeff regards it as his second favorite ever. I mean I remember wanting Tony to win so bad and hating Kass and then there was Spencer who was brilliant too! Such a good season!

Season 29- Natalie had it in the bag. Only one really doing anything. As I said I'm watching 27 at the moment but so far 27 > 29 without a doubt. There wasn't much game play this season but as I said I am a massive fan of the Blood VS Water twist. Reed's jury speech was vile.

Season 30- Go on Mike! Wanted Mike to win from Day 1 and it became a real underdog story, so glad he won! There were such vile characters this season though- Dan and Will were awful. Loved Shirin. Shoutout to the Carolyn VS Rodney fire challenge!

Now also watching Season 1- amazing how different it is but am still loving it that there are still classic Survivor elements and alliances! Will be wathcing 2-18 after this!

I really don't understand the idea that San Juan del Sur had little to no gameplay. If you remove, like, Julie, Alec, and Wes and Keith everyone was actually gaming really hard. And even then, Keith was at least trying. Sure a lot of the time it was sloppy and impulsive, but that just made it more compelling and exciting.

Quite frankly, and this isn't me coming at you Joe but more general Survivor fandom, I think a lot of people's main problem with the season is that it's one of the most feminist seasons ever and people couldn't cope with it. They didn't know what to do without their precious long-haired challenge beast and their Best Player Ever alpha who just collected idols, and they all PANICKED when Josh and Jeremy were voted out and declared that the only two people Playing The Game (read: the only two men with overbearing game-centered edits) are now out of it and therefore anyone else who wins isn't deserving, even though the supposed "best players of the season" were the first two merge boots. It definitely doesn't help that Probst and Dalton Ross threw the season under the bus for no reason at all.

I just thought it was really refreshing that we got a group of women who were able to successfully control the game without Probst turning it into a group of sexy sirens using their breasts to lure men in and kill them or a dysfunctional group of catty women who couldn't work together and let the last man standing come out on top. I just think it's incredibly sexist that many viewers and others think that the season had no strategy and no legitimate gameplayers just because the people who ran the game weren't prominent alpha males with gamebot edits.

Ah I know it was a sweeping statement. The girls toward the end did get more interesting and so did the season as it carried on but it was a slow burner. But it was the first I watched so I think I need to re-watch it, I had no idea of other seasons or other gameplay at that point either!(:
