Default Cops to probe BB house of hate

Cops to probe BB house of hate
CELEBRITY Big Brother bosses may face a POLICE probe over alleged racism and bullying of Indian housemate Shilpa Shetty.

The move comes as complaints hit 16,500 this morning making the show the most complained about in watchdog Ofcom's history.

Hertfordshire Police confirmed yesterday that one of the complaints had been made to them — which could spark a criminal inquiry.

They revealed emails have been sent to Channel 4 containing threats against housemates but would not say if it was over alleged racism.

Labour MP Keith Vaz has even tabled a motion in the House of Commons about Shilpa’s ordeal on the Channel 4 reality show.

By 11am this morning, Ofcom said it had received 14,500 complaints, while 2,000 calls went to Channel 4. The number of complaints make it Ofcom's most complained about show ever, beating the BBC’s Jerry Springer: The Opera in 2005.

Last night complaints continued to pour in. The storm of protest followed cruel remarks about Bollywood star Shilpa, 31 — with Jade Goody saying: “She makes me feel sick. She makes my skin crawl.”

Yesterday Jade’s boyfriend Jack Tweedy suggested Shilpa should pick chicken bones out of the toilet with her TEETH. It came after she poured soup down the loo.

Channel 4 last night said they were NOT contemplating taking the show off the air or punishing Jade, Jack, Danielle Lloyd or Jo O’Meara over their sniping. But bookies William Hill slashed the odds from 20-1 to 5-2 on the show finishing BEFORE its scheduled January 28 final.

And sponsor Carphone Warehouse revealed it was “reviewing” its backing of the show — and did not rule out pulling the plug on the estimated £3million-a-year deal.

Boss Charles Dunstone said: “We are talking to C4. The sponsorship deal is constantly under review. Clearly we are against racism.”

The police complaint has been passed to Ofcom. Cops will get involved if Ofcom decides it is a criminal matter. Channel 4 could also be fined up to £250,000 for breaching Ofcom’s harm and offence rules.

The Sun revealed yesterday that Jade — whose dad is of mixed race — had been dumped by an anti-bullying charity over her treatment of Shilpa. Act Against Bullying said her behaviour was “unforgivable”.

Allegations began when Jade’s mum Jackiey moved into the house.

She referred to Shilpa as “the Indian” and refused to pronounce her name properly. Jade’s boyfriend Jack was accused of using a racist word for Shilpa, but C4 denies this.

Ordeal ... Shilpa wipes away a tear

While Shilpa was applying facial hair bleach, model Danielle asked: “Do you get stubble?” and Jo added: “Like a man!” Danielle said: “She wants to be white. She’s a dog.” Ex-S Club singer Jo said Indians were thin because they undercooked food, making them ill.

Amid moans about Shilpa touching food, Danielle, 23, sneered: “You don’t know where those hands have been.” And Shilpa sobbed after Jade, 25, said she was not “genuine”.

After Jackiey left the house she told Now magazine: “I’d love to squeeze her neck until her eyes pop out.”

Jade and Shilpa’s latest spat was sparked when the Indian actress accused her of using her stock cubes.

Seizing the moment, Jade raged: “So not only are you pathetic and fake, you’re a liar!”

Ex-BB contestant Narinder Kaur blasted C4 for not stepping in. She also slammed “disgusting” Jade and Danielle for “mocking Shilpa’s culture”.

Goodness Gracious Me star Meera Syal called the show a “vile spectacle”. MP Keith Vaz said: “We would stamp on this behaviour if it was a football match, so why not here?”

Friends of former Miss England Danielle insisted she was not racist.

Channel 4 said: “Bullying or racial abuse are taken extremely seriously. Shilpa has not voiced any concerns.”

Yesterday Jade told her gang she had dreamed about having a FIGHT with Shilpa. Jerry Springer: The Opera sparked 16,351 complaints to Ofcom and 63,000 to the BBC.

No magazine should publish that. In fact, they should have refused to print any of the interview. What a disgraceful thing to say - Jackiey proves yet again what a nasty person she is.

Yes, I did notice how they got her mixed race friend in to say that she wasn't racist. That was so transparently a ploy by her agents!

Thanks for posting

Police will only get involved if Ofcom find possible criminal offences and refer the matter to them.

It could all come to nothing, although that clearly doesn't matter to the Sun when they put up a headline like "Cops to probe BB house of hate"

"She referred to Shilpa as “the Indian” and refused to pronounce her name properly. Jade’s boyfriend Jack was accused of using a racist word for Shilpa, but C4 denies this."

She did not refuse to pronounce it properly. She referred to her as 'the indian' through pure ignorance and not through racism.
The Jack accusation is just ridiculous Channel 4 are not that stupid, they know people can lip read if he had really said p*** they could of easily changed camera angle so you couldn't see his lips and just heard the beep or they would have just edited it out completely. Channel 4 would have had nothing to gain from showing him saying that word.

Lets face it applying bleach to your face isn't exactly a common thing to do so it is slightly wierd , anyone who was watching it could see Shilpa was not fazed or intimidated or offended by anything they said and they didn't say it in a nasty way. Danielle's comment was merely in context with the situation, some people put bleach on them to make their skin lighter- however, it was a stupid comment to make I do not think Danielle was aware she was saying anything wrong.
Jo did not say all Indians undercook their food, they were referring to the way Shilpa cooked the chicken and she said Shilpa's cooking made them thin, albeit a nasty comment it was not racist.

The comment about Shilpa fingering food is merely a comment about Shilpa fingering their food, I for 1 do not like people putting their fingers in my food.

All other comments had no reference to race or culture, they were just bitchy or nasty comments.

By defending them in this way, it is only because I do not believe they are being racist.

Also, this is the newspaper they will twist things to make a good story... it is all about money and what is more shocking sells more papers.
