Default Being honest/speaking your mind?

Q: Does speaking your mind on the forum equate to being warned/banned or your new thread being deleted for no reason at all by those above you? Is freedom of speach now dead?

It depends who is doing the 'free-speaking' to be honest.

It probably depends on what you're being 'honest' about and whether it borders on hate speech or not

I'll be totally honest about things I'm passionate about and involve myself in threads, but I hold myself back from being completely honest when there is drama and stuff, because I know I'd get banned for the stuff I said to some people, lol.

So yeah, there's a time and a place and if it warrants a warning, it's best not to say it.

Thanks for that. It's good to know that people are aware that honesty is not always welcomed on many forums.

I wouldn't say that honesty isnt welcome on a forum, i'd just call it 'holding yourself back'. You might want to punch the **** out of someone in real life, but you don't because you know you could end up in jail. It's the same but an internet version, lol.

There's a difference between holding an opinion, and being unnecessarily rude/nasty to people.

Nastiness is too often cloaked as 'honesty' these days, with Katie Hopkins being a prime example of that.

Thanks for the feedback Chaos. I feel that honesty is the blood line to a great forum, Having to reign it in before you type/post anything on any forum to me detracts from what a forum is actually about. Freedon of speech and all that etc.. But that is just my own personal view point of it.

I agree 100% But honesty must be looked upon as a good thing on forums surely?

Yeah I mean there's no point in people saying only what they think others want to hear.. I still wouldn't agree with people being allowed to hypothetically post openly racist things though, for example.

If someone makes a negative thread about the Labour parties new leader and then makes another negative thread about God that both equally offends everyone does that give the right to a forum mod to delete only one of those threads they disagree with but not both? Both caused offence but only one gets deleted. Is that morally fair?

Honestly is a great thing but it's easy to be honest and respectful of other people at the same time and freedom of speech is not absolute and should be used responsibly.

You are asking different questions here, it may not be morally right to you but the mod/admin that is dealing with it may think otherwise.

Not sure about other forums but our rules clearly state that forum staff can remove any of your posts/threads at any time without giving you a reason.

You can remove a thread without reason? Is that fair?

Same thing to me Josy. TBH if i or others were given a reason on whatever post was banned it could only help.
