[Russian aviation sources are reporting that the plane
was carrying 200 adult passengers, 17 children and 7 crew members. The Airbus A321, operated by the Russian airline Kogalymavia, was travelling from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to the Russian city of St Petersburg when it disappeared from radar screens 23 minutes into the flight. Egyptian security sources say there is no indication the plane was shot down or blown up.] http://news.sky.com/story/1579327/vo...eckage-reports Tragic ,the plane was about 18 years old I assume it was the planes fault Last edited by arista; 31-10-2015 at 10:46 AM. |

It is a strange coincidence though, isn't it? That Russia gets involved in bombing IS, then this happens to a Russian plane over the Middle East? Let's hope not.

OMG if true, Egypt will want to protect tourism and won't be keen to confirm if this is the case

In truth, unless it was soon after take-off, it couldn't have been ISIS. They simply don't have the military tech to take down a plane at altitude. Unless they're claiming to have had someone on-board. |

I think what makes driving less scary is that there at least seems to be an element of control. If you're in a plane and you know it's going down... ... well, there can't be much worse. Then again, you know it's going down for a few minutes and then you die instantly. A car crash MIGHT be death on impact, but on the other hand, it might be hours stuck in a wrecked car with limbs hanging off, knowing full well that you're on the way out but suffering anyway. Some of the stories I've read from emergency services regarding car wrecks. People still talking to them asking if they're going to be OK, when the emergency crew knows that half of their body is 50 metres south and it's only the weight of what's on top of them that's stopping them from dying instantly. Meh. Pleasant thread... |

something is not right there, the sinai is a hot bed for insurgency, it got worse when mubarak was overthrown, it should of also been off limits to civil aircraft, if it was shot down, then putin will send bomber jets to egypt,

..Wife claims Egypt crash pilot was 'concerned about plane'....
The co-pilot of the Russian passenger jet which crashed in Egypt's Sinai peninsula had complained about the plane's state before the flight, his wife has claimed. Sergei Truckahev reportedly called his daughter to say "the technical condition of the aircraft left much to be desired" – shortly before the Airbus A321 crashed into a mountainous area, killing the 217 passengers and seven crew on board. At least 150 bodies have been recovered so far, many of whom were still strapped to their seats. Vladimir Putin has declared Sunday as a national day of mourning, and the Kremlin has sent an emergency response team to the site of the crash. According to Russian officials, 25 of those on board Flight KFL-9268 were children. Another plane has also flown to the region to begin the process of repatriating the victims. All but four of them were Russian nationals, and the rest were Ukrainians. Moscow has also played down claims that a terror group affiliated with Islamic State was responsible for downing the passenger jet – but it is unclear whether militants in the region would have the capability to attack the plane, which was flying at about 31,000ft. Two major European airlines – Lufthansa and Air France – have now halted flights over the Sinai peninsula, an area which has seen clashes between Egyptian forces and Islamic militants for years. The Metrojet plane had taken off from Sharm el-Sheikh, a resort city popular with Russian tourists, and was bound for St Petersburg when it disappeared from radar some 23 minutes into the flight. Data shows it was plunging 6,000ft per minute before it lost contact. In a statement on its website, the airline said the Airbus was in good shape prior to the flight and had an experienced captain with 12,000 hours of flying experience at the helm. However, according to Egyptian media, the pilot reported a technical failure shortly after take-off and had requested to land at a nearby airport, according to Sky's Sherine Tadros. Rescuers have found both black boxes, which could give vital clues about what happened. Britain's Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond, has expressed sympathy to his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, in a telephone call. "The British people who know and love Sharm el-Sheikh will be especially sad that what should have been a happy holiday trip has ended in such tragedy for so many families," he added. http://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/...ane/ar-BBmFKwH |

No system is foolproof, but for international flights, aircraft operators need to keep aircraft to a certain standard of maintenance that is verified by authorities. Internal flights are not subject to the same checks so tend to be the most dodgy.

putting "crashed" in the title makes it sound like an accident... now we know that it exploded in mid air (was destroyed before it hit the ground)....sounds like an attack of some kind to me. maybe a bomb on board or maybe a rocket from the ground.. too early to say... definitely doesn't sound like an accident if it exploded mid air though.
