... Pledged by the government, apparently. So they can pledge 15 billion for bombs but consider it a victory to scrape a few hundred million away from disabled people. You couldn't make this **** up.
Note: I saw this on the front of some tabloid or other while I was buying milk. I don't have any fancy pants links and, no, I'm not going to look for or add one because I am exceptionally lazy and don't actually care enough. But others can feel free to add one or whatever. |

This has to be done, BUT it is quite amazing how much money can be pulled from thin air while apparently its completely necessary to cut carers allowance and such as we can't afford it isnt it...

£15 billion spread over how many years though? These figures are meaningless without that kind of context.

I am not condoning the Austerity cuts - as my previous posts on the subject will attest - but WITHOUT the neccessary extra funding to combat IS, we may not have to worry about the UK's 'sick and needy' -- only its 55 million or so dead, enslaved, or converted.

It just comes across as spiteful though when we can pull this kind of money from our arses while cheering that the disabled guy down the road has lost 20 quid a week of his benefits or that Sue who works in the chippy will no longer get her tax credits |

Well for starters I think it's a matter of perspective - they're doing this for the good of everyone (debateable but that's the logic anyway) as opposed to taking things away from some people so I guess it's a priority thing... but personally I think we should just not get involved, stop bombing and take no part in any anti-ISIS activities. They are not going away any time soon, we caused the problems in the first place and continuing to get involved is just painting a bigger target on our backs.

That said I do not agree with just bombing the **** out of Syria or whatever. I have stated a few times I think armys on the ground would be a better option, but I also agree with the reasons for not doing that. Its kinda..between a rock and a hard place. but sitting back twiddling our thumbs while innocents keep dying is just wrong and stupid :S |

I thought we were just gong to bomb high profile ISIS targets. The figure of 15 billion makes me think ground troops are being deployed.

The money is to be spent in making us all safe in the future as well.
The world has changed a good bit in the last 5 years it seems. We pay our taxes to pay for this protection, so I reckon we are all in it together. |

He's announced that to fund these new missiles, planes, boats and whatnot.. he's going to cut the Ministry of Defence staff by 30%. What an absolute idiot.
On top of the 25% cuts to police, you'd honestly think this government is parodying themselves. All this obsession with 'national security' yet they don't seem to have much regard for actually keeping us safe. Not to mention that these cuts will also cause unemployment so we can expect to see any savings made here lost with these people having to claim benefits instead. I've legitimately lost any faith I had for this government as of late, and believe me.. there was little I started with.
