Liverpool fire service cuts are 11 million to boot, expensive bureaucratic nonsense PCCs over the fire service. When people start dying they'll blame the firefighters too :/

Sorry
I currently intend to move somewhere more decent when I'm older and I forget that people still may have the misfortune of putting up with these arseholes for another 4 years, and possibly another decade if they continue to misinform the electorate.

Call me confused but why merge a rescue service with the police force?
In France the fire service is merged with the ambulance service and all firemen have to be highly trained in medical emergency as well as fire fighting. This keeps firemen employed as part of the rescue service and runs very smoothly.

Would be better if they discussed with with the fire service first rather than want to implement something again.
never come across a govt so intent on causing friction between itself and the Fire services and Police too. If the Fire service and Police do not want it then it should be a non starter full stop. |

The title of the thread is misleading:
The Home Secretary says fire services are encumbered by poor procurement, IT systems and buildings management, and will need to share administrations systems to reduce costs. That's not merging the services |

On topic for thread: IMO linking fire to police, even administratively, is a bad idea. There are cross sections of society that do not trust the police and actively rebel against their presence; you do not want that passing to the fire services by association and potentially leading to firefighting being hindered or firefighters being resisted. An example; Junkie Joe and his mates set fire to their flat whilst melting their heroin. Someone calls the fire brigade. Junkie Joe and Co think that the fire brigade are associated with the police and panic about them seeing their drugs stash, and attempt to stop them entering to tackle the fire. Now obviously it WOULDNT be that sort of association, however, criminals are often paranoid, thick, or a dangerous combination of both. So... Last edited by Toy Soldier; 19-12-2015 at 10:18 PM. |

Gosh terrifying thought that Josh. Actually I am likely off to somewhere like Italy if the UK takes the,in my view, disastrous step of voting to leave the EU and it then comes about. Really good point too from ToySanta on the issue of this thread as to the merging of anything between the Police and Fire service. Wherever this is at thinking stage or whoever thought it up, then it is a really bad idea in my opinion. Then again it is a massive mystery to me how this totally useless person Theresa May has been able to remain Home Secretary for so long. All she has done is alienating all the services almost, that she should be protecting and ensuring the best is given to. Awful woman, one of the biggest wastes of space in my view. I'll listen to what politicians have to say about cuts when they take a massive cut in pay and expenses. Not to mention their many and varied 'fiddles'.

'The union's general secretary Matt Wrack told Sky News that the proposals would mean "blurring the lines" between the role of the fire service and that of the police, something he said would "undermine the ability of the fire service to operate". He added: "Talking to senior police officers over many years, they will tell you that firefighters have certain unique attributes that enable them to engage with people or engage with communities, or parts of communities, that are far more difficult for the police. "Blurring the line will not be in the interest of the Fire and Rescue Service, nor do we believe it will be in the interests of the Police Service, nor would it be in the interest of local communities.' It does to me.

It won't be an easy decision but my Parents are off there if the UK votes to leave the EU so I will be in good company, for me anyway.
