It's just an observation I have made, from a few guys I know who crossdress to videos I have seen on YouTube.
It's okay for a man to wear women's clothes - they're only clothes for Gawd's sake, but why do these guys always dress much younger than their age? ![]() Like guys in their 50s and 60s dressing up in clothes only suitable for a 16 year old, or worst still the majority of crossdressers who dress up and look like prostitutes. Like wearing 6 inch heels, micro skirts and 1980s tops. ![]() ![]() Maybe I am confused but you'd think a guy of say 55 would want to dress appropriately to his age. It looks more convincing that way. What do others think? ![]() |

If you're talking about Drag Queens then it's on purpose- to make yourself look as flashy and eye catching (and also sort of amusing) as possible because they're mostly in the entertainment industry and in nightclubs lip syncing and dancing etc.

I'm talking about middle aged guys who dress up as women to try and look like women but they have no dress sense and end up either dressing as a 16 year old or looking like a fallen woman of the Curb. ![]() |

I suppose it depends why they're doing it, as to why they don't dress "appropriate to their age" etc. If they're doing it for fun, to be experimental, for a sexual thrill etc then I suppose that might be why, if they're not necessarily trying to pass themselves off as a female version of themselves, then why be restricted by norms of what society deems to be appropriate.
It's only really transexuals who would generally want to wear "appropriate" clothing in order to fit in, which in the vast majority of cases they do (obviously there are some who don't but this is also true of non-transexuals). So I suppose to counter your question, why shouldn't they?

A better title for this thread would have been "why do cross-dressers always dress like Livia's Auntie Becca?

I imagined that any aunt of yours Liv would be more like the great Maureen Lipman in her BT 'Bea' character.

Eddie Redmayne who did such a fantastic job with the role of Lily, explained that he thinks a lot of men, who are cross dressing for the first time perhaps, go over the top trying to experiment. Much like young girls do, when they go through a phase of glitter, barbie pink and too much of everything.
As they feel more comfortable with dressing as a woman, or if they have a good friend to advise them, maybe they begin to tone it down a little. Still, so long as they are happy with what they see in a mirror I don't suppose it matters. |

I think it's a bit like when young girls get let loose on make up for the first time, first bra, whatever... most tend to go a bit wild, mad and then grow up very quickly and look back and cringe once they've found their style and what looks good on them and what doesn't - except when it's mature men who are cross dressing after presumably years of hiding a desire to do so or doing it in secret for years, they've got absolutely no perception of what they look like to other people and as such are acting like young teenage girls without the help of adults and peers to help them not look stupid.
