Default Met Police to get 600 more armed police to boost terror response

Six hundred extra armed officers are to be trained and patrols more than doubled to help counter the threat of a terrorist attack in London, the Metropolitan Police has announced.

It will bring the total number of armed officers in the capital to 2,800.
Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said: "It will be an expensive option, but is vital to keeping us safe."

It comes after Scotland Yard reassessed its ability to respond to armed attacks after last year's Paris terror attacks.

The plan to increase the number of armed officers - which is already under way - will more than double the Met's number of armed response vehicles.
But one counter-terror expert said he was concerned that too much focus was being placed on London when the terror threat was UK wide.

The terror threat level in the UK remains at severe, meaning an attack is "highly likely".

Splendid news BOTS. It shows our Intelligence Services are up to speed and that the Government are taking their intelligence reports seriously.

Surely we should learn from America that throwing more guns at a problem doesn't solve it. Chances are, more innocent people are going to die as a result of this than terrorists. I'd rather they just put the funding towards Inteligence.

I understand you Dezzy
but they (MI5) get updates
from near nations.

So on this current Terrorist Attacks
If Evil Men like those in
Paris start to attack London places
I want My PM
to Order Shoot to Kill
all Armed Evil Terrorists.

In the Future if a Police Officer
tells you to put you hands up
just do it.

As all they want is these Evil Terrorist Killers
not you Dezzy.

Life Is Short.

Yes there are now plans for this Locke
because,
Other Big Places like Manchester
could be hit
as Evil Terrorists want to get rid of Gays,
for example.

Please Note : There Is Nothing Wrong With Being Gay

I have no idea if this initiative will help in reality or not. I'm not entirely comfortable with armed police full stop, but if there is an event like Paris, we need to be prepared I guess, in all the major cities

If you've ever been to London you'll know the rest of the population are very well represented.

I've only ever seen armed police twice in the UK, in London and in Bradford. Having them there made me feel so much safer. I think it's a good thing, I genuinely feel a lot safer hearing this.

There's that point of view...then there's the terror my daughter felt being kettled at the fees protests. Imagine if they'd been armed with more than heavy blunt instruments. Imagine more deaths like Menezes and other unarmed suspect teens because of officers ignorant to the reality of a situation.

I visited family in Texas last month. They have passed new laws recently allowing civilians to carry guns visibly. You can go to a sport store like decathlon, shop for your weapon of choice and be out of there in the same time it takes to get a mobile phone here. I saw a guy pissed off he couldn't take his gun into the grocery store with him.

But there, penalties are harsh for gun crime. They have grown up within a gun culture, right or wrong, and they know how to behave around firearms. In the UK we don't have that, so for me, we need a lot more education before we start handing out the guns to the ones in the uniforms. And we need to ask the question: Is that the way we really want to go.
