I think that reality TV has got to a stage now that almost nothing will shock us and it is almost at its peak and will soon be on a slow decline.
We tune in to see the drama unfold and to see who will take it to the next level. Tonight we saw them calling each other ***** more than once in an attempt to shock us. We heard a close to the bone "ghetto" comment which was imo as close to racism as you could get without actually getting there. We saw weight slurs and the craziest drunken display ever aired on British television. These were all attempts to 'take it to the next level' and keep us interested. Each reality celeb trying to make a name for themself. We are almost over saturated with 'drama' now.It can't get much worse and i think in the next five to ten years we will be bored of it because it can't get much more extreme without becoming criminal.Somebody is going to have to get arrested live on TV if it goes much further. Don't get me wrong i enjoy it as much as the next person but i think reality TV has almost had its day. |
