It depends what provisions they have with them. It sounds like they were doing day climbs and returning at night to their tent and so it doesn't look good because if that's the case, they will of used up any provisions and won't of had the extra warm night gear needed to survive up there.

There was an avalanche warning in place on Saturday and two of the rescue team were hit by an avalanche in the place they were last seen, it's not looking good in all honesty

I'll never understand, given the amount of injuries/deaths each year, why folk go climbing in the Highlands during winter.. Even a nice clear wintry day can change in minutes up there.
I really hope this couple are found, but I agree it isn't looking good

I guess at that age you think nothing is going to go wrong, foolish to ignore the warnings though

This is why we don't climb in the UK during the winter, its just not cold enough and that makes snow and ice unpredictable.

Those rescue teams are all experienced climbers and mountaineers who have a fantastic back up system and minute to minute weather forecasts. The colder it is, the safer it is to send out rescue teams; its when it gets suddenly warm like it did at the weekend that there's a high avalanche risk.

There is always a risk of avalanche on BN because of the unpredictable warm fronts. They were caught out in Observatory Gully which is a large culvert and a very dodgy place to be, but it says they were both very experienced climbers, so why they were crossing a dangerous culvert like that is a bit of a mystery. It rather looks like they lost their bearings and paid for it with their lives.

For their families sake, I'm glad they have been found.

That's why we wouldn't climb on BN in the winter months. I don't know if you have ever stood on the edge of an avalanche Cherie, but its the scariest thing to look at.
