Default Should the UK's legal driving age be increased?

Thoughts?

No but they should either make cars that can only go so fast or say that all new drivers must have the black box fitted and new drivers must only drive that type of car for the first 5 yrs. That should stop the speed demons killing themselves.

I was the victim of a road rage driver yesterday I was driving along minding my own business when this car coming in the opposite direction pulled across in front of me and started reversing into a parking space so I drove around him next thing I know he is pulling up beside me aggressively saying I should have let him out, How was i supposed to know he was turning anyway I gave him a cheery two finger salute and then he cut me up and pulled in front of me, I could see him looking in his mirror so I waved again and then he started punching his fist

No. What has age got to do with anything? If you pass the test that's fine. I am 17 and drive well.

I don't think it would help. When you start driving you will undoubtedly drive like a nutter for a while whether you're 17 or 21.You want to test the limits of your car and get excitement from it.You get bored of that eventually but that is down to driving experience and being pulled over a few times imo.Not age.I passed my test when i was 20 although i had driven abit before and drove like an idiot for a couple of years until it was'nt so exciting anymore.

No but I think all new drivers should have to wear the green "L" for a year.

Don't think age is the issue. There's many older drivers who are more reckless than some young ones.

Every new driver think they're the dogs bollocks but insurance companies disagree.

As a new driver, you are more likely to have an accident in the first year after passing your test than at any other time in your motoring career.
Per mile of driving, the risk of an accident involving injury or death is about seven times greater for 17-20 years old than for those aged 40 or over.
Drivers under 21 are involved in 15% of all accident deaths.
New drivers make up just 10% of licence holders, but are involved in 29% of accidents.

Maybe that's because such a great proportion of 17-20 year olds are new drivers? And if the minimum age was increased there would be just as high a proportion in the youngest bracket?

Yes absolutely and so no, I don't think they need to put the driving age up but I do think they need to start re-testing people beyond a certain age because once the body slows down, reaction time slows down too.

Nah I don't agree with that, "L" plates and the green "P" plates IMO cause other drivers to drive unpredictably because they are being wary of the car with the plates. There's some justification for that when it's an actual learner but beyond that, it's safer for everyone to be driving "normally" rather than defensively.
