This was really good actually, had me watching all day.
I have seen the 1974 elections on this channel before and enjoyed them too. I liked the emphasis on the results, tie last election in May last year was just in effect a talking shop with most of the results, even with time well and truly spare, became like an unnecessary extra rather than the main part of the election. Listening to both of the main party leaders too,I would have liked both,I found Heath entertaining and when they showed the snippet with Harold Wilson asking for the Conservatives in his audience to put their hands up and then he asked them a question and responded, that's how audiences should be, mixed, not just filled with your own supporters all the time. Most politicians today wouldn't have a clue how to deal with any real heckling. I'd have probably voted for Heath had I been around in 1966 but this was really good to watch. I particularly liked the Ford plant at Dagenham with Fyfe Robertson, asking a guy how he voted and him answering he didn't want to say how he voted, then Robertson followed up with a question of Labour being a likely good govt,to which the guy answered, yes,he always backed Labour. Some really good moments, with ITV would show their old coverage of elections sometimes too. |
