Default Van Gaal sacked - Official :)

Louis van Gaal has been sacked as manager of Manchester United, with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho set to be named as his replacement.

Van Gaal, 64, leaves after two years of a three-year contract and is currently discussing severance terms.

The former Netherlands boss is believed to earn around £6.4m a year.

Mourinho's appointment is expected to be confirmed after the 53-year-old Portuguese meets with senior United officials on Tuesday.

It is not yet certain what future Ryan Giggs, Van Gaal's assistant, has at Old Trafford or what will happen to the rest of the coaching team.

BBC Sport reported on Saturday that United's FA Cup win over Crystal Palace would be Van Gaal's last game in charge.

Disgusting treatment. And even more disgusting that we have to endure Mourinho again. Dull ****.

He's got a lot of work to do and he'll probably want to spend a bit of money to get his players. Will be good for two years but cant wait to see which player he pisses off first.

I think the way United has handled this has been pretty poor.....all this pissing about today with the announcement is embarrassing.

You can't release a statement until terms of the contract ending has been finalised.
United did not report LVG was sacked the press did. United's hands are tied legally with this. Nothing embarrassing about it.
Also, it seems we have been in negotiations with Jose for months, so LVG would have been naïve not to realise missing out on top four was not going to get him sacked.
Most clubs have a new manager in mind while preparing to fire the current one.

Actually Man Utd are one of my top 3 teams as to who I support and would pay to watch.

2 seasons is not a long time for any Manager, especially how it came about he came to the club, and for me 5th place only missing out on 4th on goal difference and an FA cup win,was rather good.

I was hoping all the way Man Utd would get that extra point needed to finish above City.
Now in Man City, there is a team I do really dislike.

Its clear Man U are not intent on building a future now, they want short term gratification, what other outcome can there be with Mourinho

We are a club who always looks to the youth. Mourinho will be expected to uphold these traditions. The likes of Chelsea & City have always brought the finished article rather than look to youth, that's not the Man U way.
Don't judge Mourinho before he has even taken the job.
I expect a good mix of experience & youth.

I go to Old Trafford often & the football under LVG was awful. The worst I have watched there in over 20 years. He had to go. The press reported that he was to be sacked not the club. They would have waited longer but could not do so with it coming out in the media.

We have just spent 200m on an academy and Pep is known for his use of youth players, I'm sure we will be up there next season when it comes to who played the most youth players.

Having been a United fan all my life this season has been far the hardest to stomach. Many of my friends have cancelled their season tickets for next year (although now may regret it lol).

So that's the winning manager's of both the league cup and FA Cup, sacked.

My advice would be, don't win a trophy or you'll lose your job.

I'd rather win the FA Cup than finish 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the league.

It's not.

Anyway, I have no resentment to him even if the football was depressing. He broke the post sir Alex cup hoodoo which is vital and has bought along some exciting young players. Was without doubt the right choice to get rid and bring in Jose while he was available though.

You could always not win the league for 12 years. I hear it is the best way to keep your job these days.
