Default BRIAN\'S NEW SHOW

Article from todays Heat

"We've always loved Brian Dowling, so we're delighted to hear he's assuming the role of fairy godmother for a new ITV1 show. And with a name like Brian's Boyfriends - it's bound to be a success.

Brian rang heat to tell us about the programme: "A girl will give us three complaints about her man and I'll surprise him at work. Then it's my job to sort him out - if he has bad breath, we'll go to an oral hygienist, or if he needs a makeover - I'll take him shopping."

The couple will then meet up and the girlfriend will decide whether to dump her man or not.

brian is looking forward to using more adult humour than he can on SM:tv: "I can be more tongue-in-cheek, and it won't be as nerve-wracking as live telly but it's scary to be doing it alone." he admits.

He cheekily added that he had enough complaints about his ex to fill a whole series, and said he'd like to include gay couple and celebrities in the show in the future.

Brian's Boyfriends will air on ITV1 from 27 May. If you would like your boyfriend to appear on the programme, call 020 7323 0924."

Sounds like it will be a great show, being produced by the Blaze Television.

Well done Brian!!

Blimey, with a name like Brian's boyfriends I won't be watching. It sounds really deep.

Thanks for that information, BDGA - excellent news!

I like the sound of this programme - should suit Brian down to the ground.

Is it only boyfriends you can nominate, and not husbands as well? (only joking! )

Well done, Brian!

Yes, it's great news for Brian and I'd love to watch the show but isn't 27 May the possible start date for Big Brother 4?

Good for Brian - he will be able to use his humour to the best advantage. Nice for him to get away from childrens' presenting.

Though I do agree Kaz I'm sure he could include a few husbands = after all no-one is perfect are they? Wonder if they include improving untidiness and leaving the seat up on the loo? LOL

This is brilliant news for Brian.

I can't wait to see the new show and it sounds the ideal kind of show for Brian. Although I enjoy watching Brian on SM:tv it will be good to see him in a more adult show.

Hopefully he will still be working on both SM:tv and the new show at the same time. I certainly could cope with seeing Brian on the telly twice a week!!

Thanks BDGA

This is fantastic news for Brian! A new show and on ITV1 as well!! Fingers crossed that it does well and he gets a lot of his one liners in!

27th May is a Tuesday so it doesn't look very likely that BB4 will actually start on that day.

This show starts on the 27th at midnight.

As far as I can tell though the Scottish ITV regions aren't showing it.

Oh No! I think you may well be right, James.

This is from the Radio Times:
Quote:
Brian's Boyfriends

Channel: ITV1 London
Date: Wednesday 28 May Time: 12:00am to 12:25am

Brian Dowling presents the show in which he helps transform guys nominated by their partners, in a bid to fix any problems that get on the nerves of their long-suffering but loving partners.
How rude!

Hopefully other regions, including Scotland, will see this shortly afterwards - I hope so anyway!

The good news is that if you've got Sky you can see any of the ITV regions.

There's instructions on this web page about the settings to change:

http://www.vowles-home.demon.co.uk/Sat/SkyITV.htm

You might want to print that page out.

I think you will find that it is being shown in Scotland as there is an article in the Edinburgh Evening News tonight .....

DJ gets a kick out of macho man makeover

BY FIONA MACGREGOR

HE was the sort of man that any girl could take home to meet her mum.

A 23-year-old who rarely drinks, has no interest in football, and chooses conservative clothes.

But Forth Radio DJ Matthew Smith was just too clean-cut for girlfriend Krystle Weaver.

In a bid to turn her "new man" into a new man, she arranged for a laddish make-over.

Now Matthew’s macho image-change is set to be broadcast on national television as part of a new makeover programme hosted by Big Brother winner Brian Dowling.

The DJ, from Slateford, had thought he was attending a routine management meeting at the station’s Edinburgh HQ yesterday but the larger-than-life TV celebrity was lurking in the shadows to spring a surprise.

Matthew had been secretly nominated to take part in a new ITV show, Brian’s Boyfriends, by Krystle.

The show asks people to identify things they would like to change about their boyfriend and Brian then sets about revamping the unsuspecting victim who is later returned a changed man.

After his initial shock he was whisked away by Brian and a television crew to Easter Road stadium to meet former Celtic legend and Sky football pundit Charlie Nicholas for a crash course on the laws of the beautiful game and a keepie-up session.

Krystle, 20, who has been going out with Matthew for eight months, said: "I grew up with a dad and a brother who are big football fans. I’ve never been out with someone who didn’t like football and beer before so it’s quite a puzzle really.

"I don’t think this is going to turn Matthew into a football maniac."

At Easter Road, Charlie did his best to explain 4-4-2 formations, the offside rule and other soccer intricacies but it had little impact on Matthew.

Matthew said: "I was very surprised everyone at Forth managed to keep this a secret.

"Brian just appeared at this meeting and I was wondering what was going on.

"I had no idea Krystle had set me up and I didn’t see this coming. Music, film and television are my main interests and I was brought up in South Africa which doesn’t have a great football culture.

"Charlie was a great sport and tried his best to give me a basic understanding of the game. I have picked up a few tips so if I bore Krystle to death talking about footie from now on it’s her own fault."

Nicholas said: "I spent years as a professional and used all my experience but Matthew was a bit of a lost cause.

"He just managed to grasp team formations but when I got to the offside rule his eyes were glazing over. Matthew’s keepie-up skills hardly got off the ground and he should stick to the music business."

Brian then whisked Matthew up to 21st Century Kilts in the Royal Mile where he was fitted for a stylish kilt that would impress Krystle.

And during a visit to Caledonian Brewery at Slateford, Matthew - an alcopops drinker - was encouraged to down a few pints of Caley 80/- ale.

The day was rounded off when the new Matthew met up with Krystle for cocktails at the plush Tower Restaurant.

He said: "It was a great laugh and Brian was a wonderful host but I just don’t see me standing at the bar, sinking pints and talking about Hibs and Hearts."

Host Brian said: "Matthew entered in to the spirit of the show and was game for a laugh but he is a lovely guy and I hope we haven’t changed him too much."

Krystle said: "He is a great guy the way he is and I don't mind if he goes back to his old ways."

Brian’s Boyfriends runs from Tuesday, May 27 on ITV 1.

On reading Heat today I notice that Brian's show is on at MIDNIGHT on ITV on 27 May. What a time!!

Perhaps they are trying to capture those maniacs who are still up watching BB4

There's a small piece today by the Mirror's 3AM Girls on Brian's new show:

Quote:
BRIAN Dowling's new show hasn't got off to a terribly good start.

In Brian's Boyfriends, the SM:TV kids presenter makes over an unsuspecting boyfriend every week, under the orders of their girlfriend.

But one bloke got wind of the plans and promptly dumped his girlfriend.

He told pals he couldn't believe she was going to try and change him on TV.

Brian told 3am: "We were on our way to film him when his girlfriend told us. I had to turn around and go home."
Believe it if you will! Nice piccie of Brian, though - looking very smart!

Awww - poor Brian!!

Still, it's all good publicity for the show I suppose.

Just a little reminder that the show is on tonight at midnight, so set those videos!

Incidentally, if any of you feel strongly enough to complain about the timeslot, or if it isn't yet being shown in your area, there is a feedback form available here Just click on "Media Access Services" and then "Feedback form" and make your feelings known!

**getting very excited now!!**

If you can't get Brian's new show in your ITV region and you have Sky digital then you can get all the other regional programmes including London using the Other Channel feature. The following is a link to a website which explains how to do it link to how to set up Sky Other Channels

The time slot is nothing to do with the standard of the show. The show was commissioned by ITV's Night Time Programmers and as such will be shown at night. The show was never to my knowledge pushed as a prime time show. This is an ideal gentle slot to get Brian into his own presenting. There have been no negative comments on the show to my knowledge in the press.

A recent poll on ITV Children's website had Brian as the most popular presenter of SM:tv at the moment by a long way and it is generally accepted that it is the format of the show that is to fault and not the presenters.

Well cc100, I'd love to know where you got your information from as I don't remember reading anything in the press or hearing on TV! The show was never advertised as being prime time, it was always expected to be in a late-night spot, but midnight is pushing it a bit I must say!

ITV explained the timing of the show like this

Thank you for your recent email and we are sorry to hear of your concerns. We are also eagerly awaiting the programme and wish Brian well, however the series has been commissioned as part of our Night-Time schedule, thus the slot has been allocated to make the series as accessible as possible to an audience at a transitional point within the schedules.
Night-Time is a stand alone schedule, and is designed for a specific audience, much like Daytime or Peak Time. For example, something like This Morning would not transfer to early evening, nor would Coronation Street run only within an afternoon slot.

We shall ensure that your comments are highlighted to ITV controllers and thank you for your interest in our services.

I hope that sorts it out for you cc100. ITV obviously think highly of Brian even if you don't.

Nora

ps - who IS that on your avatar? I've often wondered - is it you or a "famous person"???

Well I stayed up late last night specifically to watch Brian and I must say it was a bit of a disappointment.

Brian was his usual lovely self, but may be because it was the first it dragged and the concept seemed a bit pathetic.

sorry if others loved it.

I've got to admit, it wasn't the best TV show I have ever seen. The format of the show was a bit rubbish, even though Brian was sweet and funny.
I only watched the first half and then turned over so I dont know if the second half got better but I dont think I'll be staying up late to watch this again!
