Default Change The Game?

Does anyone else think that it would be a good idea if for one year they changed the style of the Big Brother game to be more like the North American Big Brother?

If anyone is unfamiliar with it, I'll briefly explain.

In the North American Big Brother, the week begins with an HOH (Head of Household) competition which decides who will be Head of House. The winner of the HOH gets their own special room, goodies and privileges. It is then their job to nominate two people for eviction from the housemates. There is then a Power of Veto competition which basically gives the winner of that competition the right to veto a nomination or take themselves off (or not) if they are nominated. If the veto is used the HOH then picks another nomination for eviction. Finally, at the end of the week, the house makes the decision on who leaves by voting in the diary room (or face-to-face).

Things obviously different:

- Less public involvement.
- No weekly shopping task.
- No voting from the public.
- Discussion of Nominations is obviously permitted.
- Often less arguments and drama occurs.

Does anyone think that this would be something the British public would like, or no?

Game talk in BBUK so far has amounted to the god awful "Power Housemate" week of BB15 and the first two weeks of BB13. Bloody awful.

Yes, the current version of BBUK is also awful though.

I thought they were doing it this series and I didn't object to it, so I'm open to them switching to it in the future (as long as they provide the subscription-based feed).

I thought that too. When they were like "The Game is changing" I was hoping for the North American style BB. Obviously from having Nikki in BBCAN you would have thought some of the producers would have been watching and taking notes on how to make the show more interesting to watch. From watching both BBUS and BBCAN I can say that you really get more involved in the game and with the housemates themselves. After a while you really start to root for the one(s) you want to win. People like Dan Gheesling etc. are real Big Brother winners in my mind - they actually had to 'play' to win. People like Chloe (BBUK16) just floated all the way to the end and won because she was the least boring one left at the end.

Since we're not going to get classic big brother back, I'd love to see them try it out, maybe as a one off, noone really knows if it would work or not. It could be a refreshing change.

I like both versions... and I think BBCan is closest to striking a happy medium of the two... but I don't want BBUK to be anything like BBUS tbh.... I just want it to be more like it's original concept, where the housemates aren't chosen for being Z listers with sad pasts together... but are just average UK people from different regions that live together and hilarity ensues.

What's the difference between the US and Canada formats?

Could a reality show wkth the exact format of BBUS/Can be made in the UK separate to Big Brother? BBUS but callled "Power House" or something?

It's an interesting concept but the British public and the American public are worlds apart ...what works over there doesn't always work here.....but I've even never watched it myself so only guessing....changing the format just a little over last two years has not been welcomed by many of us and what ever they tried this time was obv shelved cause it back fired.
Has ours become like America in the type of reality housemates we put in these days ? I will have to watch an episode, I'm curious now.

I do remember Blind Date being hugely successful for years and years, then they changed the rules completely and Cilla Black quit and the show died on its arse.

For me, American TV is awful so it's hard for me to think their BB would be better....but I'm definitely gonna take a look to see.

Is this true though? In terms of reality TV anyway. Shows like TOWIE and Geordie Shore were a new type of RTV for us, and they came to be because of American shows like The Hills and Jersey Shore. We essentially copied an American format and it worked over here. I think UK and American TV viewing habits are quite similar in general.
You're right that the 'small' changes over the last few years haven't been received well, but I don't think that's an indicator that 'big' changes wouldn't be. The problem with small changes is that it's still close enough to what people are used to, to remind them of how it used to be and make them wish it would go back to how it was. On the other hand, a massive overhaul of the show could make people see it a brand new light and possibly revitalise it. I probably wouldn't be saying all that if not for the fact that I watched BB Canada for the first time this year (I'd never seen an international format before). I thought I'd hate the format before watching it (I only tuned in because Nikki Grahame was on it lol) but I loved it. It felt really fresh to me, the actual 'game' is exciting and unpredictable, and it still felt like Big Brother. I definitely recommend watching some of it, I'm an old school BB fan but it changed my opinion on the subject.

I agree.

To anyone that hasn't watched the North American versions of Big Brother, it's certainly not what you're expecting. The game is so much more exciting to watch as the people in there really have to use their brains to stay in. Alliances and friendships change all the time and it's really fun watching people back-stab and scheme to get people out of the house or to save themselves from being evicted. The competitions/ tasks are WAY more exciting to watch to be honest - there is really no real comparison.

Can't wait for BBUS to start tomorrow!

US and Canada are basically the same except the US one has a higher budget and normally they pick more interesting people. In the US Big Brother they play for 500,000, Canada is only 100,000 like BBUK.

People are so used to following BB's script here now with transparent manipulation that the hate pantomime because really tedious. If they made it vote to save, had live feed and moved it off CH5 and didn't manipulate as much.....but none of that will ever happen here.

So I'm for the US version now. Those who want showmances can watch Love Island. The stupid pantomime audience will become irrelevant if they switch to the other version.
