Default An ICON Blasts The EU - Andrew Neil Speaks

Brexit will spark 'pan-European uprising' Andrew Neil's magnificent rant on floundering EU

ANDREW Neil today delivered a skewer into the heart of the EU by claiming Brexit could spark a "pan-European uprising" which could bring it crashing down.By EMILY FOX PUBLISHE 05:07, Mon, Jun 27, 2016 | UPDATE 08:01, Mon, Jun 27, 2016

The veteran BBC host, speaking on the Andrew Marr show this morning, said that Brexit "could be the first serious rebellion" against the control and supremacy of the EU and trigger an international show of defiance.

The presenter, whose pieces to camera are a key part of his own show, said: "Britain has crossed the most significant political watershed in our lifetime.

"But the European Union faces problems of its own. Euro-scepticism is on the rise. Almost everywhere Pro-EU parties are in retreat.

"Anti-Brussels sentiment is at British levels across north-west Europe.

"In France, the EU is now even less popular than it is in Blighty, causing German officials to fret about the future."

The BBC veteran warned that if the EU did not heed Britain's warning over Brexit and carry on with "business as usual" then it would only lead to further disenchantment.

He added: "It may not trigger a rush to the exit but it does suggest business as usual in Brussels will only fan rebel flames - the EU as much as the UK is now in unchartered territory.

"It's in the interests of Brussels and London that neither loses its way."

His comments came as Britain voted to leave the EU in an historic referendum which has sent shockwaves across the world.
