Default Priority Seats

~long post sorry~

I was on the bus today and I was standing cause the bus was full and there were no seats available and there was this rude old lady infront of me (who was also standing) who started shouting at some 5 year old girl because she was sitting in "priority seats" and she should've offered it to her because she's old and then the girl got up and offered her the seat and the old lady was being stubborn and refused to take the seat and said she was getting off at the next stop anyway and then the old lady began shouting at the woman's mother and started to patronise her and telling her that she should understood that a person should give up their seat for the elderly and the mother said that they're not from London and it's their first time here and she said that her daughter offered her the seat and she didn't take it and the old lady denied that the young girl offered her the seat (when she did) and she began making a snide remarks to the mother. She was being really rude and uncalled for and she was right infront of me and she was gobbing off in my ear (not to mention her breath reeked of roadkill too) so I intervened and said to the old lady that if she's capable of standing up (which she perfectly was as could stand/walk perfectly fine and she wasn't that old anyway) then I don't see what the problem is and I told her to stop getting rude. She then told me to not get involved and to keep my mouth shut and I replied (at this point I began to get pissed off) saying that she was screaming in my ear so I have perfectly every right to get involved given she was screaming in a bus full of people and at a child who did nothing wrong and I said to her that she did offered her seat but she didn't take it so she should just shut the **** up. And then some other guy behind me told me to chill and calm down (I wasn't even being aggressive) and that the old lady is in the right - he would've gotten off for her to sit down. And I replied saying that that wasn't the point, she was getting rude to another passenger for no reason when she's perfectly capable of standing up and when the young girl offered the seat she was being stubborn and refused to take it so it's her fault and if she didn't want to take the seat then she should of just stayed quiet instead of starting at the mother and trying to start a problem for no reason. And she was getting off after one stop anyway so it's not like she was going to be standing for long. And then the guy told me to shut up. I didn't bother replying to him and just turned my head away cause he was looking for an argument and I was beginning to get really angry too but I bit my tongue (in an ideal world, I would've loved to smack the prick). I then said to the old lady as she was about to get off the bus that with her attitude, she doesn't deserve priority and I would've left her standing.

Anyway, do you think I was in the wrong in this situation?

Like, I'm all here for giving my seat up for an elderely or disabled person - but the woman said she was getting off after one stop anyway so she wouldn't have been standing for long and she wasn't even that old anyway and was perfectly capable of standing for two minutes. Not to mention, she was being exteremely rude towards the little girl for no reason and practically shouted at her till the little girl got up and even offered her the seat and said she said didn't want it anymore cause she was getting off at the next stop and then began to criticise her mother soon afterwards. I also forgot to mention that she was being a knob when she was getting on the bus too as she was at the same stop I was and there were a lot of people getting on and she started moaning that it was unfair as she's been waiting for the bus before everyone else was so she should've gone in first. She had a massive chip on her shoulder and she was being a twat and if she's going to be a bitch then she doesn't deserve to have any seat offered to her imo. Not to mention, the girl and the mother were on the bus before her and she chose to target them when there had been others who were also sat - why did she single the young girl out and start moaning at her and not at anybody else who also was sat down.

Some people are just so rude.

Sounds like she has a superiority complex and thinks she's entitled to everything because she's old

She lost the argument when she acted more petulant than a five year old child by refusing to take a seat she was complaining she didn't have

I'm all for giving seats up out of courtesy, but if you're going to shout at people to do so (and you don't have a damn good reason like you're disabled or literally incapable of standing) you're pretty much acting entitled and you can **** off and fall off the bus tbh

You were definitely not wrong. She sounds a ****, and the guy getting involved too tbh. I have seen this so many times...I have actually seen an elderly (by this I mean maybe 65-70...not like 100) woman YELLING at this guy to give up his seat for her. The guy did and he had ****ing crutches and nearly fell over? Some older people really need to get the **** over themselves tbh. I have once had someone demand I fold up my buggy (Skye was a few weeks old at the time) so that she could put her shopping trolley thing in the buggy bay?! **** off.

I saw red but it was getting heated and I just bit my tongue cause he couldn't even speak properly so I wasn't going to waste my breath on idiots. In an ideal world, I would've loved to deck the twat but we were on a bus.

He pissed me off more than the old bitch tbh.

That's awful I honestly hate people like that. Thank god I rarely use public transport/the bus cause dealing with people like that on a daily basis would be a pain.

I always try to avoid sitting in priority seats because of stuff like this. Even if they're the only seats left I'd still stay stood up as its not worth the effort

Its not even just the priority seats tbh...maybe I see more of it as I use buses constantly, but I have seen a few times older people shuffling half way up the bus just to tut at a teenager/schoolkid who didn't offer up their seat. I have even seen someone WALK PAST an empty seat to do just this? Seems some like to just argue with younger people tbh or just be a pain in the arse.

I've seen this now too. It's got to the point where I just put my head down as the elderly people get on the bus. Half of them are perfectly capable of standing and a lot of the time I'm just not in the mood after a long day at work that I have to hold myself back from saying "oh I'm sorry, have you had a hard day shopping?"

Maybe that makes me sound like a **** but they're getting far too entitled for their own good, especially when they cut the queue after waiting like 1 minute for the bus when there's been people stood at the same stop for 10-15 minutes.

The seat is not for 5 year olds, why did the 5 year old not sit on the Mums knee?

Thank God... I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought this.

While the elderly woman's actions were not great, the kid shouldn't have been sitting on a seat on a full bus anyway.
