Sam is so two-faced and is such a Game Player, that it would not surprise me if he saved Jason in the belief that Jason is 'unpopular' with the voting public -because of the recent 'boos' he received - and is therefore less of a threat than the 'more popular' others, to his chances of winning.

I do hope that this is his rationale and that it backfires on him spectacularly with Jason WINNING the show.
