Anurag Basu introduces METRO cast

Anurag Basu gave a stunning 'Gangster' exactly 6 months back and the accolades have not yet stopped coming in. One of the classiest products by Vishesh Films ever, the film helped everyone associated with it to look for greater heights in the coming years. Meanwhile Anurag Basu is giving finishing touches to his tale of urban relationships – 'Metro', which is a UTV production. Set for a release this February, the film boasts of a powerful starcast comprising of Shiny Ahuja, Shilpa Shetty, Kay Kay Menon, Kangana Ranaut, Irrfan Khan, Konkana Sen Sharma and Sharman Joshi.

In an exclusive conversation, Anurag Basu gives a character sketch of his lead protagonists…

Shiney Ahuja – loser
He is the loser in my film. He plays a man who tries to run but is left a lot behind in the rat race.

Shilpa Shetty and Kay Kay Menon – all house no home
They play a couple who live in this big city. They have been married for long and have all the luxuries that they could have hoped for. They have a sea facing flat and the works but then they are also saddled with hefty EMIs. They have got in a house but the question is "do they have a home?"

Kangana Ranaut – career comprises
She is a young working girl who doesn't mind using her looks and body for getting up in the ladder. In her heart she knows what is right and what's not – par woh dil ko maar ke sab kuch karti hai sirf upar pahaunchne ke liye. She has a unique love triangle with both Kay Kay and Sharman. While she uses Kay Kay in her endeavor to get what she wants, Sharman is someone who is in love with her.

Konkana Sen Sharma – virgin at 30
She is someone who has reached 30 years of her age with an entire life going into studies. She had been to college and is a graduate. Her problem? She is still a virgin and now she is going berserk in her search for a perfect man.

Irrfan Khan – you have got ‘male’
His is an interesting character. Now most of us men would agree that even if we are married, we can't help gazing at a stunning female with a good bod. He is someone of the same kind though he is not married. He doesn't have a girlfriend but is now looking at getting married. He meets Konkana through a marriage portal, gets into a blind date, phir wo dono milte hain, bichadte hain aur unki story aage chalti hai!

Sharman Joshi – money minded
He is one of those young bloods for whom money is most important. As per him, ek baar paisa mil jaaye, bas life set ho jaayegi....baad ki baad mein dekhenge!

^ It is an Indian film with the language of it being Hindi. However there is a good amount of English. But the film will have subtitles.
Im sorry, what do you mean, "how quick did Shilpa do the movie"?
The film has 6 stars of Bollywood, to get matching combination dates could be tricky, or if they get all the dates needed pronto it could have been made quicky.
But I dont get the gist of your question?

Metro Preview

The world is becoming smaller. Cell phones have cut down distances. Low cost airlines have got cities closer. There’s less time for breakfast. Even lesser time for dinner. And no time for lunch. The sensex is rising. Malls in every corner. Multiplexes, the only way to watch movies. The seven year itch has come down to 7 months. Or lesser. Depending on how ambitious one is. We are getting bored too soon. Too many choices. Too many dreams. Not enough sleep.

Rahul is one such young man with dreams. Working as a call centre executive in a BPO in Mumbai. He silently loves his boss, Neha. A smart young woman who has made it up the ranks in a very short time. And hard work is not her only secret. Because her boss, Ranjeet loves her and is willing to shower her with gifts and opportunities… only if she is willing.

In his 30s, Ranjeet is married to Shikha with a 6 year old son. Shikha is very well educated and was a better student that Ranjeet. But they decided that she should stay back at home and take care of the house and the kid. So Ranjeet ventured out on his quest for money and success… and forgot his family somewhere on the way. And bitterness and boredom crept into their relationship. Soon he found solace and a fresh lease of life in Neha. An exciting, non-committal relationship based on sex.

Neglected by an indifferent husband and bogged down by family chores, Shikha is soon attracted to a maverick in Akash. A loser and a rebel without a cause, Akash is a struggling theatre artist whose wife divorces him… because she cannot stand his failures anymore. Akash and Shikha’s love blossoms and she almost crosses her limits that she has so fervently guarded all these years.

Amol is a 70 year old man who’s returned to India after 40 years. To spend last few years of his life with his first love, Vaijanti. This lady lives in an old age home and is Shikha’s aunty who gives moral strength to Shikha.

Shikha’s sister and Neha’s room-mate, Shruti works in at Radio Mirchi. A producer. In her 30’s and still a virgin, she’s desperate to get married. She is dreamy eyed about her RJ, Wishy K. Her boss hooks her up with Wishy K. While she also meets Debu through a matrimonial site. Hates him. But Debu, an ordinary man, is ready to marry her. Her affair with Wishy K blossoms.

Rahul is extremely ambitiously and discovers the easiest way to success. Rather the key to success. The key to his uncle’s opulent apartment where he stays while his uncle is away. Most of the men in his office look for places to take their mistresses, girlfriends or prostitutes. He provides the perfect place to release their libido. His apartment. The cost? A recommendation for his out of turn promotion. Even Ranjeet gets the key and takes Neha to the apartment.

Amidst one of their escapades Neha asks Ranjeet about their future. A commitment? Ranjeet makes it clear that she should not even think of a commitment. He insults her and leaves. She tries to commit suicide. Rahul discovers her in his apartment and takes care of her, They share some loving moments… come closer but still she’s unsure about him.

Vaijanti Aunty dies. Amol Uncle goes back. Leaving behind the lesson and importance of undying love for Shikha. Shruti discovers that Wishy K is a gay. Leaves office. Joins Debu’s office. She proposes to Debu at his wedding. But then runs away suddenly. Ranjeet confesses his love for Neha to Shikha. So she confesses her love for Akash. Ranjeet gets upset and leaves home. Akash writes to Shikha that he’s leaving the country and she can join him if she wants. Rahul is disillusioned with the way the metro has treated him and is leaving town. Neha realises her folly and chases him to the station. Shikha chases Akash. Debu chases Shruti. They all meet or cross each other at the railway station. And go ahead on their own paths. With lives they wanted. Or whatever the metro had destined for them.

When Shilpa Shetty stripped...

... Our very own Shilpa Shetty did it, albeit as a prank on director Anurag Basu. The Murder director, however, is yet to recover from the shock.

Recently, when Anurag was shooting with Shilpa for his forthcoming film Metro at a five-star hotel in Juhu, the actress thought of pulling a fast one on him. Immediately after pack-up, Shilpa went to her make-up room and immediately called Anurag.

"Shilpa thought of playing a prank on Anurag and she took everyone into confidence. Anurag is a simple person and Shilpa wanted to do something which would make him nervous. She thought of doing a striptease in front of Anurag," says our source.

As soon as Anurag entered the make-up room, Shilpa locked the room and just like any Bollywood actress, she told Anurag: "Now I am going to strip!"

Anurag, who did not know it was a prank, was totally out of sorts. He was nervous and even before he could say anything to Shilpa she took off her skirt.

Anurag shut his eyes, thinking he would get scandalised. But when he heard Shilpa laughing, he slowly opened his eyes only to see her standing in her capris.

"Hey, who told you?" asks Anurag, when we got in touch with him.

"It's true that Shilpa tried to play a prank on me, and knowing her as a vibrant actress I was taken aback when she claimed that she would strip. She actually took off her skirt and I didn't know that she was wearing a pair of (capris) jeans underneath. She is a crazy girl and whenever she is around the entire unit laughs and enjoys the work."

The film also stars Shiney Ahuja, Konkona Sen Sharma, Irfan Khan and Kangna .

No biggie. But yeah Bollywood premieres are as glitzy as Hollywood and British ones too. They have the media and stars from their industry present too as well as the stars of the film.
And yeah the premiere is in London, so lucky us. Yay!
