Default Michael Bublé to host the 2017 Brit Awards (update: or not)

Quote:
MICHAEL BUBLE is taking over from ANT and DEC as the host of the Brit Awards, I can reveal.

In a huge shake-up, Brits bosses have persuaded the Canadian superstar to front the biggest night in British music.

It will only be the third time in the ceremony’s 40-year history that a non-British star has hosted the show.

But it is a huge sign of the organisers’ intent to ensure the Brit Awards are still recognised on the worldwide stage and watched by a global audience.

It follows the formula used by the MTV VMAs and EMAs, which in recent years have been hosted by big pop acts like MILEY CYRUS, NICKI MINAJ and ED SHEERAN.

Michael himself is over the moon to be taking charge of the bash, taking place on February 22.

He said: “It’s a huge honour for me to host such a big night in music. Even though I didn’t grow up as a Brit I’ve always been well aware of The BRIT Awards and their impact globally.

“As a fan of music this is the perfect gig. I’m very much looking forward to February and celebrating the success stories of a great year in music.”

Michael has been nominated for three Brit Awards during his extraordinary career but is yet to win one.

But he is still one of the most successful artists in the world, with sales of over 32million albums and three UK No1s.

Luckily he has plenty of experience hosting awards shows, too, having presented Canada’s equivalent of the Brits — the Juno Awards — in 2013.

Brits boss and Sony Music chairman JASON ILEY is even more delighted to have secured his services.

He said: “This is a huge coup for The BRIT Awards and we are delighted to announce Michael as our host for 2017. He is an extremely talented and charismatic world-class entertainer much loved by the British public. Michael will add an exciting element to our show in 2017.”

Hosting the Brits isn’t an easy task, as former presenters like JAMES CORDEN, THE OSBOURNES, RUSSELL BRAND and CHRIS EVANS will tell you.

Current hosts Ant and Dec already announced their plans to step down after doing an incredible job fronting the bash for the last two years.

Michael’s inclusion is not the only big change at next year’s Brits.

In a big move, the nominations will be unveiled in a live prime-time Saturday night show on ITV in January, including guest performances.

I hung out with Mr Buble on a recent whistle stop visit here — and he is one of the most charismatic men in the business with a wicked sense of humour.

There will be doubters, but my hunch is that this is a genius signing.
...yeah, really
