1. The Clash
2. The Beatles
3. The Rolling Stones
4. Bob Marley and The Wailers
5. The Libertines (Honorary contemporary representative).

I could have used the 5th spot for Nirvana, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix Experience, The Who, Metallica, The Smiths amongst others but seeing as pop groups such as Blue, Mcfly, the Kooks and Ordinary Boys are involved it's not as if the integrity of the poll is going to be effected.

Nice one Hitman.

I'd like to give a shout out to the Smiths too and the Stone Roses.

There was so many I wanted to vote for, I think I might edit mine later (Is it alright if I do that, Red?)

Well, seeing as it's the greatest bands of ALL TIME it's strange that there are none featured from more than five years ago. Did they not have music back then?
A lot of people think pop music is all about the here-and-now. And you can't really vote for something if you've never heard of it... well you could if you wanted to bluff it.

Anyway...

These are my faves rather than those that I think are objectively the greatest. I'm not sure about the order apart from Pink Floyd at 1.

The 70s was definately the best period for me. Before the pop video and MTV came along in the 1980s (or mid-seventies), which changed things - it became more about the image then than the sound.

1. Pink Floyd
2. Kraftwerk
3. Queen
4. The Jimi Hendrix Experience - He completely revolutionised rock guitar playing.
5. Pet Shop Boys - Probably should be Led Zep, The Beatles or Stones but I'm a fan of their songs and wanted to put something more recent. They have some great songs, with very well written lyrics, which you don't get often in pop.

Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones - should probably be on the list.

Others I like...
REM (Automatic for the People - great album, Fave song - Drive), Blondie, David Bowie (not really part of regular band though), The Eagles, T-Rex, The Kinks, The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds great), The Monkees maybe, The Shadows, ABBA, Depeche Mode, Madness, The Police, The Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, The KLF. I like Jamiroquai and Blur too.

Here's my choice.

1. Beatles - The first to write, play and sing. The best ever
2. Led Zepplin - The best hard rock band of all time bar none.
3. Rolling Stones - Great Rock band. Must be played at maximum volume.
4. U2 - Diverse and still rocking
5. Sly and the Family Stone - Tore it up at Woodstock

Just bubbling under Nirvana, the Who, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix Experience

1 - Razorlight
2 - N'Sync
3 - Kooks
4 - Queen
5 - Red Hot Chilli Peppers (if i can imight change that soon - cant think of anymore just now)

In response to the above posts.

All music is readily available at your local Virgin Megastore,HMV or even try your local library. In my humble opinion, the public shouldn't have to be told what to listen to by Radio1 why don't they seek out music for themselves, then maybe they'd have heard of music revolutionaries like Miles Davis, George Clinton and Sonny Boy Williamson. Feel free at any point to say 'Who?'. The greatest band of ALL TIME should reflect decades of music and not the current Radio 1 play list. Just a thought.

I agree. Well with the moving on bit anyway. I was merely defending myself from the two above posters.

Thought I would join in late with this one.

1: Depeche Mode (without them there would be no music. Fact)

2: Orbital

3: The Kinks

4: The Smiths

5: Level 42. (no, honest. If you like a bit of Brit funk give their early to mid 80's stuff before they were well known, a go)

I'd love to do this but its just another excuse for people to make fun of other peoples opinions. I wish those people would get lost and let this thread do its job.
