The 43-year-old made the claims on Twitter as she shared her contribution to the trending hashtag "#WhyWomenDontReport".

The 'Charmed' star alleged that she experienced the terrible ordeal at the hands of a "studio head".

In a series of tweets, she wrote: "a (female) criminal attorney said because I'd done a sex scene in a film I would never win against the studio head. #WhyWomenDontReport

"because it's been an open secret in Hollywood/Media & they shamed me while adulating my rapist. #WhyWomenDontReport

"Because my ex sold our movie to my rapist for distribution #WhyWomenDontReport

"It is time for some goddamned honesty in this world. (sic)"



The hashtag was designed to create awareness as to why women don't always report rape cases.

It originated from the backlash prompted by the continuing allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour and comments made by US Presidential candidate Donald Trump .

It is not the first time the'Scream' actress has spoken out about sexual harassment and misogyny.

The star - who considers herself an activist and is often vocal about these societal issues - recently shared an article in Glamour magazine on misogyny, written by her friend and actress Amber Tamblyn.

Amber wrote: "If you're a woman in America there's a 10 in 10 chance you've experienced it--whether you recognise it or not, whether you're ready to admit it or not.

"It's a culture that talks down to you. [Misogyny] thrives in our country on a cellular level, right in front of our faces.

"It exists like goose bumps exist, like premonitions are felt, like earthquakes are predicted."

It's being proved over and over again and it's honestly just depressing.

Anyway, love her and well done to her for adding her voice and helping other women. I do feel a bit like the hashtag leaves out men who've been victims of abuse though. I mean I get that it's off the back of the Trump allegations, but still I think it would be better if it was more inclusive. It's hard for men to be taken seriously too when it comes to abuse.
