This is true, it's really not all that bad. Of course it could change in the future but that's the same for anything so there's not point worrying over speculation. I think it's just a case of security forces catching up with the modern world, so many people have so much of their lives online whereas they didn't used to so I just see it as an adjustment of how they could monitor us... we've always been monitored. And peoples personal details can always be misused, whether it's the tax office, or your HR department, or the many other places and people that could potentially access your personal information, but like Dezzy said there'll be safeguards here like there is for those other places, it isn't really a new thing that agencies can access information on you though (and you can always make sure you don't share your personal information over the internet if it's something that does worry you).

I'm not too worried, Laws like this are a massive risk to the government due to potential Human Rights abuse claims and civil lawsuits so I'm guessing that there's a lot of safeguards in place to prevent it from being misused. Anyone that does misuse it will likely be made an example of, I'm guessing.

It'll rarely get enacted I bet, it's likely that there's gonna be a lot of red tape to get through to actually use it.

I think most agencies here you have to request these kinds of records... I don't think they can just read your information whenever they choose, but really I don't know. Though that doesn't mean they don't have a backdoor written into their system for law enforcement or something. I'm sure some need records so often, they do for subpoenas maybe... otherwise they would have to have a dedicated phone # or something.

Though when you apply to law enforcement, they check your social media... my husband had a new friend he'd never heard of called "Case Worker"... click the link and it does nothing. An imaginary friend.

...this is always going to be a controversial thing because of the privacy invasion but some monitoring can be positive and advantageous as well..I recall quite a few years ago, Mr A had a fraud on his credit card online...it was quite a big sum of money and if it hadn't been monitored in that it was a gambling site and not something that his card had ever been used on in the past../gambling...then it would have probably taken a long time../many hours of frustration etc to sort out but because his spending habits were monitored I guess, it was picked up and sorted out straight away as being a fraudulent use...

Microsoft... being able to access and share their details but when the security services, here only to keep the country safe, it becomes a problem.
