Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix announced today a multi-year, multi-game partnership, leading with the reveal of The Avengers project. This newly established partnership pairs the creative minds at Marvel and Square Enix for one of the most powerful alliances in interactive entertainment.

A game based on beloved Marvel heroes, The Avengers project is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics – longtime developers of the award winning Tomb Raider series – in collaboration with lauded Deus Ex developer Eidos-Montréal.

The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018

I've been waiting for a really great Marvel or DC game forever... is it finally time?

I mean Spider-man 2 was fun (for it's day) and I enjoy Injustice for what it is... but a real story / action driven experience... has been conspicuously absent since the start of the MCU.

I think the Marvel licenses were owned by Activision until recently, now they're free again, and we're getting Insomniac's spiderman, and Square's Avengers games

BIB, the Batman Arkham series has what you're asking for, especially the first two Games in the series.

True, I have played and enjoyed the Arkham series... However... The fact that I didn't think of it just reaffirms my prejudice towards Batman. I don't consider him to be a superhero . A hero, sure... But he doesn't have powaz so... It's not really a superhero game so much as a stealth / ninja game but with a costume. Same goes for Green Arrow and other "Street level" heroes like Daredevil, though he technically has some abilities.

Funnily enough I don't include Tony Stark / Iron Man because, although technically he's basically the same as batman (a normal guy using tech), when he's IN the suit his ability levels are elevated to the same level or above many of the others who have actual abilities...

But yeah. I'm talking SUPERhero games with actual powers... Tbh the only games that have come close to capturing that are InFamous and Prototype. The first Prototype is a flawed game but actually the ONLY game I can think of where they've captured a sense of having real power. It just seems... Wrong...
