Default Contestants banned from singing

Hi, found this on The Sun Online.

*********
Big Brother bosses are to ban singing from this year’s show.

And I know you’ll all agree that it’s music to all our ears.

Contestants will be ordered not to belt out renditions of their favourite songs in a shameless bid to launch pop careers.

With just 15 days to go, show chiefs are so desperate to ensure BB4 doesn’t turn into a karaoke session they will even stop those taking part from bringing instruments into the house.

Re this quote from the Sun article:
Quote:
BB2 finalist DEAN O’LOUGHLIN bored us to tears with his guitar strumming . . .
I . . . DO . . . NOT . . . AGREE!

'Deluxe' was a beautiful song, with very special memories (why, oh why did Dean never release this as a single? ) and 'I'd Like to Kill You' was a very jolly song indeed!

On a general note, I think this year's contestants will find it very hard not to sing AT ALL while they're in the BB House, and I'm sure mistakes will happen. Nine weeks without a good old 'sing-song' is a bit much to ask!

Pathetic!!!

More to do with performing rights than a sing song or kariokee, if you ask ME!!!

And, yes, it has been a hard day so far!!!!!!!!!!

On the plus side does this mean fewer bird sounds and train noises?

Or does it mean more (if the rules have been made more strict)?

What a load of rubbish.

I really enjoyed the group sing-a-longs on BB2 and last year they composed a song for Tim and were singing about the house. Why not is what I say

What are they going to do if someone has a musical moment (as we all do) and actually dares to sing a song.

Dont think they will be able to enforce this rule, or at least I hope not. It also makes me realise that its not just me who cant sing, but loves having a go.

BRING ON THE SINGING !!!!

I think it was Sticks who mentioned that there could be a copyright problem and that's why the housemates weren't going to be allowed to bring musical instruments into the house but to ban singing altogether ............

I can't believe publishing houses could be so petty about people singing their songs. You would think they'd be thrilled with the free publicity.

As to Victoria Newton's "I'm sure you will all agree etc etc", just who does she think she is making such a sweeping statement? Of course I don't agree. I absolutely loved Dean's singing and guitar playing in the house and so did all the housemates.

Technically if you are recorded singing a song, you can be construed as violating two lots of copyright., The tune and the Lyrics. (They are treated separately in law)

C4/Endemol, in order to be consistant will have to ban whistling and humming as well, since that could be perceived as a violation of the copyright on the music.

The song they gave for Tim was not covered because the housemates composed the music as well as the lyrics, so the copyright belonged to C4/Endemol (Not the housemates)

C4 / Endemol are not above the law, and as I mentioned elsewhere they did have dip the sound because they did not have the permission to broadcast the songs / music being sung by the Housemates.

Dean was exempt, since the compositions he played were his own, and he is as far as I am aware a paid up member of the Musicians Union. You need to be if you want to play at gigs.

How pathetic?
I always sing, without ever knowing about it - you need to sing to get through the day, it makes you a happier person! Just because you sing it doesnt mean you want to be a pop-star.
