I hope you get your computer unblocked. In future tell your dad to keep a whistle next to the phone and next time one of these scum tries to cheat him, to give one long hard blast down the phone.
A couple of tips to give him. One is that these scammers usually have an Indian accent.Never give any persaonal information or bank information out over the phone or computer. There is another scam doing the rounds where they pretend they are from the tax office and you have to pay a tax debt that has been overlooked and needs paying now. All scams. |

Malware bytes and Bit Defender Antivirus. Maybe Avira too as it has all kinds of cool cool add-ons. For completely free internet security, go for Comodo.

The best advice is if someone rings asking for personal details, bank details, access to your computer etc and say they're from a company like BT or Microsoft or whatever, you say I will ring BT myself to make sure this is legit, if it genuinely is BT or whichever company they would have no problem with you doing that and wouldn't try to convince you to stay on the phone

I haven't gotten a call in a while but I got about 3 of them last year/the year before. I just hung up on him, Gavin answered one time though and kept him chatting for ages until the guy eventually hung up on him

If there are no important documents stuck behind the password (that you can't access by plugging the hard drive into a different computer) then I personally would back up anything important and blank the drive then reinstall windows from scratch .
You don't need an array of AV to avoid viruses. The number one protection against computer viruses is user knowledge. If you don't click dodgy links, follow dodgy phonecalls, or visit dodgy websites then the basic, free AV protection that comes with windows is more than enough. I haven't used 3rd party AV for more than a decade. I've never had a virus. And I torrent . Basically they're relying on ignorance... be skeptical and don't install anything you don't recognise and your PC will be fine. |
