It’s likely that all old passports will continue to be valid until they come to be renewed, at which point we will presumably be given one with a new design.

From the Independant, wouldn't this be a rational response, throw it out to the public to come up with a design, have an online poll and free post for the non computer literate, cost....pretty much zero...

I'll ignore your patronising sexist comment, surprisingly no I don't have a financial breakdown of the costings.

This is serious debates and news... This is news is it not?

Sexist.

You don't have the monopoly on pretty undergarments love. I'm sporting a pink thong with a fluffy trim as I type.

Yes, it's news. But you're moaning about the cost of something we DON'T have the news on just yet. All we know is that the passport design will change.

Couldn't they just change the ink cartridge in the printer?£20 from The Cartridge People.

Would love a red, white and blue Union Jack cover though.Imagine rolling through customs with that bad boy while the Europeans are still brandishing their crappy bergundy things.

I would also appoint a Minister for Passports on minimum wage who would sort through the design entries, we could then throw it open to a phone vote to recoup his salary and more and also have 5 free votes on an app I've just saved the country 500 million ..you're welcome

Aww, but then we'll have threads moaning about the cost to then print millions of these passports which will get printed and made regardless.

Solve that one!

Digital passports? I agree Chezza.

I thought the point of the thread was to get enraged about something that's nothing?

Your first comment to me was about playing virtual tycoon for too long as though my input was invalid and trying to patronise me.

I conduct a discussion in the manner of the thread starter.

I'd also use the phrase "knickers in a twist" to any sex so don't pull the sexist crap on me either.

And yet my response still stands.
"although it stressed this is because the current contract is ending, rather than because of the exit process." - So not a Brexit issue.

"The Home Office stressed that Brits will only have to pay for a new passport when their old one expires" - So not much waste considering it gets changed when they require a new one anyway.

And still no clarification on actual costs. Just "£500mill" thrown into headlines. So I still think it's a big fuss over nothing.

Ah well you don't have to discuss it if you don't want, there are other threads.
My first reply to was based on your rather glib comment that my concern and the article was mere 'fuss', I'm not getting into a back and forth with you so you can derail the thread further.

I don't mind discussing.

My original comment was in agreement with someone else and nothing was said about you. Also, there was nothing glib about it.

YOU derailed the thread Kizzy.

Plus £80? It'll just be the one charge of £74-80 to renew it surely?

Well, I don't think it's been confirmed they're going back to the old blue ones.

But, as has been stated, of course the passports are going to be changed now we're out of the EU. That would happen regardless. And the current contract is up at the same time so, not really a big deal.
