Eerie images have emerged of the upmarket Brisbane flat where a gigolo brutally murdered his transsexual prostitute wife and boiled her remains.

In October 2014 Marcus Volke, 27, murdered, disfigured and began cooking the body parts of Indonesian woman Mayang Prasetyo at his Teneriffe apartment.

A chef by trade, Volke chopped her lifeless body into pieces before boiling them on the electric stove.

With a timber-framed ventilation system, the stove can be seen in the kitchen where he used a huge pot in an attempt to conceal his murder.

The apartment complex in the riverside enclave was virtually brand new at the time of the murder, and the pair were among the first to move in.

Fresh details have now emerged on how the pair came to be living together.

'Marcus had accrued a debt of approximately $9,000 in credit cards, with no means of repaying it,' Detective Sergeant Joshua Walsh told court on Monday.

Volke decided to become a male escort in Melbourne clubs as a way of repaying the debt - and it was there he met Ms Prasetyo.

They came up with an agreement between the two parties that he would assist with her getting a permanent partner visa for Australia and she would assist him within transgender clubs within Melbourne and overseas, in Europe and Asia.'

The pair had travelled through Asia and Europe together, working as escorts in transgender clubs, the court heard.

In 2013, the couple married in Copenhagen without the knowledge of Volke's parents, but with the blessing of his future mother-in-law, according to news.com.au.

Around a year later, Volke and his partner moved into a ground floor apartment with their three dogs at the Teneriffe complex in Brisbane.

They lived there for just a couple of months before Ms Prasetyo was killed, according to The Queensland Times.

Volke's heinous crime was only uncovered when the huge pot he used to dispose of the remains boiled over and short-circuited his apartment's power.

A contractor was later confronted by a putrid smell, which the killer tried to explain away.

'You'll have to mind the smell, I'm cooking pig's broth,' Volke said.

It was the electrician who later raised the alarm.

When Constable Liam McWhinney and his partner Senior Constable Bryan Reid asked to search the apartment, Volke locked the door and fled.

Volke sought refuge inside the industrial bin but was soon surrounded by 15 officers with no escape.

When police opened the bin they found he had slit his own throat with the knife he grabbed on his way out of his flat.

An examination of their deaths and the response from police continues on Tuesday.
