It will be kind of interesting to come back in a few years and see if any of these threads and dire predictions have happened. Though I think what most people forget is that we have a potentially new government every 5 years so the chances are any changes made will be made again.

Like with Freedom of Speech, you either accept all of it or you are against it, there are no grey areas. The internet has it's dark sides but those sides aren't beyond the law which makes the idea of handing over control to a government who will only use it to benefit themselves completely silly and needless.

I'm sure that Pornstars love being compared to hate speech and actual crimes.

The idea has potential if used properly, but it just seems that instead of dealing with dodgy websites, or threatening posts, they're instead more concerned with taking on their own personal prejudices.

The fact that anyone would willingly accept or support this, is terrifying. I already use a paid VPN on my desktop PC for anonymity but no doubt they'll find a way to make VPN use illegal eventually, too.

everything has good and bad - you got good poets and terrible poets (waterhog) but all are free to pollute. the internet of course is a huge help to us all and does massive good but there is a dark side ! but this is the case with everything ?

I have no problem with the government regulating the internet providing they first regulate there own ship - and once parliament is running with no corruption - bring on the change tick tock tick tock ?

This is totally anti freedom.
It mentions news websites.That is a slippery slope.They may start by saying they're trying to get rid of "fake news" but then abuse those powers to take down anything that goes against their agenda.Unbiased information will be even more of a rarity.
I'm all for forcing internet companies being pushed to tackle extremism and other such nastiness but this appears to go waaay further than that.
The Tories know they can push this through along with the fox hunting because they're so confident of a huge majority so they're getting as much crap as possible through.
No way i'd vote for this.
