Default What a day

What a day we had yesterday. Six forums members were banned; numerous arguments broke out resulting in threads being closed left, right, and centre. I think one ban was a tad harsh and, at times, it seemed like some members were trying to be banned out of sympathy for their friends.

I think these arguments have been brewing for a while. I’m a relatively new member to the forum but I’ve noticed there are certain forum members who refuse to acknowledge the other side of an opinion. They believe that they are always right and instead of listening and trying to understand the other point of view, they simply become upset and start an argument. They seem incapable of agreeing to disagree.

This causes a problem for me. I’ve got a mouth and, it’s big one too. I say what I like and I like what I bloody well say. After, all it’s a forum.

I observed the madness yesterday but due to work commitments was unable to have my say. However, one statement fuelled the fire with me. It was implied that certain newer forum members act like they own the forum. I’m not quite sure what the poster meant by this but I think they feels that newer members should know their places and only speak when spoken to.

This also causes a problem for me. I’ve got a mouth and it’s big one too. I say what I like and I like what I bloody well say. It’s a forum.

I think that certain forum members have caused this disharmony because of their inability to adjust and accept new members to the forum. It’s a forum and - I can’t speak for the moderators but I’m sure they’d agree - every member has equal status and every opinion is a valid one.

These arguments were inevitable and sometimes I believe it’s good to clear the air. I propose that all the banned members come back, respect other forum members and we move on from these unfortunate incidents.

When I joined the forum, I looked at the rules straight away.

But, just like Police officers do, they will use their discression

I saw plenty of "text-talk", which I never personally do ever anyway. Even when I do use a mobile phone and text a message.

I still struggle to understand some of it anyway.

Arguing will always take place, as many forum members will have very strong opinions about a person or something they believe in.

If someone disagrees with their opinion, or even get's sarcastic or patronising or nasty.

Then, words and comments will come out in writing

This is what happens on Big Brother & in real life.

I think that moderation is great on this forum. But, there are times when I would criticise certain decisions and I am sure every other member would also? some more than others.
______________________________________
On a previous forum I was involved with, I said this:-

Headmaster

Teachers

Pupils
----------------------
What this means, is, in this forum, you have the Headmaster(Mark), then, you have the teachers, headed by (James) & (Kaz), "moderators":- Romantic Old Bird, Amy, BusyBee, Di2001, rachb, Lance, Sunny_01, Mike, Red Moon

the Pupils are the forum members, "us"
----------------------

What happened yesterday, which I never saw, as I was out all day anyway and certainly wouldn't have got involved with, as I am not so bothered with that particular debate.

Anyway, it was a case of the (pupils) heavily criticising the (teachers) decision and becoming a mob, "a riot", so, a decision from the (headmaster) was made and 24 hour bans were issued.

I made that mistake with my 48 hour ban issue, and have realised that zero-tolerance was in force. Hence, lessons learnt.

It will never go down well, but it happened.

(pupil's) don't rule a school or a forum.

if you don't like the way the (teacher's) are running things, then you can always find another set of (Headmaster, teachers) somewhere else.

But I like it here and I am sure many other forum members do too. This is the best Big Brother forum I have ever seen on the web. and I am addicted to it and won't look elsewhere.

What happened yesterday happened and if lessons can be learnt from it, it can always be much better for the future!

Yep.

Hopefully we can put yesterday behind us, and things can carry on as normal. Closing this thread to prevent the argument potentially being stirred up again.
