Atari reveals console comeback: the Ataribox
Quote:
Atari has revealed a retro look for its first console in 24 years, the Ataribox.
The machine has a wooden front panel clearly inspired by the gaming firm's iconic cartridge-based Atari 2600 of the late 1970s.
Its slimline design also harks back to that much-loved console - which introduced many teenagers to the world of gaming.
As well as the wooden finish, it will also come in a more modern black and red version.
The company emailed fans to say it would feature "modern internal specs" so it can deliver new games as well as classics from its back catalogue.
It will have an HDMI output, 4 USB inputs and an SD card slot.

Full specs and release date, as well as details on which games will be available, are still to be announced.
The console was first teased at this year's E3 gaming expo, but the images released on its Facebook page are the first time the entire console has been seen.
Atari's last console was the Jaguar, released in 1993, but the machine flopped and saw the company exit the console market.
It also released the world's first colour handheld console, the Lynx, in 1989.
Nostalgia for 1980s and 1990s gaming saw Nintendo score a big hit with the NES Classic Mini last year - a reproduction of the original Nintendo Entertainment System.
This September also sees the release of the SNES Classic Mini, while Sega is also jumping on the retro market with its Sega Genesis (Megadrive) flashback.
Both come pre-loaded with some of the consoles' best-loved games.
