Nice idea but I think it might be a bit hard to moderate.

Yeah it would be hard to moderate as Admin arent Welsh Speakers

Why not talk on MSN for that?

Cool idea, but there are only around 3/4 regular Welsh members on here.

Yeah, to be honest it just won't work due to the moderating problem. And not only that, it does partly make it awkward for other members - namely the majority, who don't speak Welsh at all lol! Plus as others said you've only got the handful who do really. However, if you really wish to speak Welsh with other TiBB members there are plenty of other chatting methods. The odd sentence now and again is OK so I don't see why people have been arguing about it. I'd just refrain from speaking it too much here and instead doing it elsewhere.

If there was a Welsh section on this forum, then there might as well be other languages on this forum too.

But if a Welsh person can speak English as well as Welsh, then it would be very polite and friendly and cooporative if everybody stuck to the same language of English, which we can all understand.

It makes common sense really!!

I also agree, that it would be impossible to moderate, as Welsh speaking forum members might be saying nasty things which none of us will understand.

I think that is understandable.

LOL, great idea, but having a whole forum on it will leave nearly all of the members out! I think I made a welsh-speeking thread last year, but no one else on here spoke welsh. But there are a few now like Sam, cepb, eyeonu, kittybitty26, Noopie, Callie (who's left) and me.. so YEY! Oh and also all the mods/admin don't speak welsh, so that's a big problem!

And nodis.. I can speak both, but I'm much more fluent in welsh because it's my first language. It's easier for me to speak welsh because that's what I speak in school and at home, I don't get most english words that people write on here (like plausable)!

EDIT: Found it! You could move it to C&G, maybe it will sort everything out>
The OFFICIAL Welsh Speaking Thread

And sorry if Iv'e annoyed anyone

I imagine Sophii3x, that as much as Welsh speaking forum members want this, it will never happen on here.

Like you say, No moderator or Admin can speak the language or even understand the words. As there is many rules in this forum and members are supposed to abide by them, then, if a Welsh speaking section was opened, then rules could be broken (left-right & centre) nobody would know?

It also leaves the majority of forum members out, which could find yourselves, also being disliked by a few, because of this.
___________________________________________
If it did happen? Two big changes would have to be made:-

1) One of the Welsh speaking forum members would need to become a moderator.

2) for every post that is written in Welsh, then an English translation would have to be written underneath, which would mean that all other forum members and moderators could understand and also join in.

LOL, I know it will never happen. But I made a thread a while ago, maybe that'll work better. And I really wouldn't mind people hating me, I know a few on here who hate me anyways.

And about the writing the translation.. NO WAY!

^ But do you really think it's fair to stop people from speaking their language, or are you just anti-welsh? It makes the forum more interesting when there are different languages about, english is boring because everyone speaks it. I really wouldn't mind ifs people were speaking French or German on here.

I am not anti welsh at all Soph. If people want to speak in their own language together, then I have no problem with that. But there are specific environments when it is better to speak in English. This forum is one of them. And all I said the other day was that I think the BB house is one of those environments too. My opinion.

I think you will find reading a lot of the posts on this thread, that many members feel the same. But hey, you can make your own opinion of me, and for the time I have been here, I think you know me better than that.

I have never heard anyone say, "English is boring".

Sadly, for everyone who speaks only English, we have to be happy with it. I certainly am and if I chose to learn another language, then I would learn it.

None of us are anti-welsh, you know that! and so does anybody else who is from Wales.
____________________________________________
I'll tell you a true story, which will make you realise something.
------------------------------------------------------
A friend of mine speaks fluent German. He was born in England and spent most of his life here, but also visited Germany many, many times and loved the place and wanted so much to understand the language.

One day, he walked into a shop in Germany with a friend. both had a Lancashire accent and anybody would guess that they were British. Anyway, while my friend was there, he asked the shop-keeper a question in English and the shop-keeper also spoke good English and replied to his question. But, the shop-keeper had an assistant who was with him and they started talking to each other in German and were saying nasty comments about my friend, thinking to themselves, that the English gentlemen, (My friend), wouldn't understand it.

Anyway, my friend did understand every word which was spoken and went up to both of them and replied to them in German language. Both of them were shocked and embarassed It served them right. They were both saying nasty comments, but expected to get away with it, as they assumed that my friend was English and wouldn't understand the German language or even the lingo.
__________________________________________

You see, Sophii3x the moral of the story, is, when you speak in another language and nobody except Welsh speaking people can understand it, then anything could be said and all of us would be non-the-wiser.

I really wish it was possible for us to do this but as someone else has already said where would we then draw the line. We have to be able to moderate things. My nan was welsh speaking and my dad understands basic welsh. I think it is truly a beautiful language and really wish I could learn it as a 2nd language!

I'm not against welsh or the welsh language in any way, shape or form but I think it's better to keep it a "one language" forum.
