The Broadcasters' Audience Research Board (BARB) is responsible for providing estimates of the number of people watching television. This includes which channels and programmes are being watched, at what time, and the type of people who are watching at any one time. BARB provides television audience data on a minute-by-minute basis for channels received within the UK. The data is available for reporting nationally and at ITV and BBC regional level and covers all analogue and digital platforms. Viewing estimates are obtained from panels of television owning households representing the viewing behaviour of the 24+ million households within the UK. The panels are selected to be representative of each ITV and BBC region. The service covers viewing within private households only. |

I'd be interested in what the viewing demographic was for the first two series in 2000 and 2001.
Personally I think the series would be more interesting if they aimed it an older audience. Unfortunately they earn too much money from phone and text voting. |

Cheers for that info Clom. However, I stick by what I said before. You can certainly get these stats by taking select groups from each region etc.. and getting an "average". But, I just don't buy into the "average" thing. Every household is different, and short of actually surveying everyone in the country, there's no way of telling who is actually watching it and when. After all, there could be half a dozen people living in one house with 4 TVs all switched on to some channel or other and nobody actually watching anything.
So, that's why "stats" don't really tell me anything. |

Also, I don't know why they group 16 to 24s together. 24 is a very different age-group to 16.
I would make it 11 - 18 (school age), then 19 - 30 or something like that. |

Clom, can I assume you have a source for this info that's not readily available to the general public?

Yeah, the first two years were more popular with older viewers, as I thought.
Those two series are still my favourites. Thanks for that. |

I am surprised at the split of male-female viewers - 48% Male 52% Female. I thought it would be more female than that.

During BB3, a much older demographic watched it more than the 16-34 audience, compared to 2001.
