They were saying they were really happy Marissa got picked because they were worried it would be one of them, and that it would be really embarassing to be first out and his (Sam's) friends would tell him he was a "wrong un" and wouldn't talk to him. They were half joking but I don't think they realize that other people will be up against Marissa and she isn't the only one.
