now it confuses me even more

it says widevinecdm.dll is similar to silverlight for streaming services as well as on google chrome, tbh i have chrome edge so maybe norton showed the message that it did a minor update and therefore it said was safe?

i'm confused, since i also read messages like some say its dangerous

It's a file left behind after visiting a porn site.

Maybe try deleting your search history and cookies.

No human is completely pure and innocent, except maybe newborns.

And a good amount of children.

i've looked it up anyways, also not necessary to remove it since it will cause more trouble for you when you remove it, since it adds to functionality of the chrome or chrome edge browser, basically for audio/video or something like that, same purpose it has on streaming services such as Disney+, Netflix

it is similar to Adobe, PlayReady

tbh i am familiar with Adobe, so i understand then

maybe what norton said was safe, was a update since it does do updating not that often but still

if you remove it, pointless since with a new update it will install itself back onto the computer because chrome/chrome edge needs it

Widevine is a proprietary digital rights management (DRM) technology from Google used by the Google Chrome and Firefox web browsers (and some derivatives), Android MediaDRM, Android TV, and other consumer electronics devices. Widevine technology supports various encryption schemes and hardware security to restrict consumer access to distributed video content according to rules defined by content owners. Widevine mainly provides a Content Decryption Module (CDM) as a client to Google Chrome and other browsers and devices. Widevine is free to use by content providers and as such does not charge any fees for license generation or device integration.

Widevine DRM is used with the Chromium-based proprietary web browsers and on Android. It supports MPEG-DASH and HLS. Google Chrome and Chrome OS make use of Encrypted Media Extensions and Media Source Extensions with Widevine, where it is used to decrypt content. Over thirty chipsets, six major desktop and mobile operating systems, and Google properties such as Chromecast and Android TV have adopted Widevine.

Companies including Amazon Prime Video, BBC, Hulu, Netflix, Spotify and Disney+ use Widevine DRM to manage the distribution of premium content.

It is also used by Firefox since v47, released in 2016, enabled by default on Microsoft Windows and optionally on Linux; it can be disabled and uninstalled in the browser settings. Prior to that, Mozilla used Adobe's Primetime DRM library for some versions.

yes i had read that too

btw does it have anything to do, with it checking how secure websites are?

since i've seen that next to the search bar, for example this forum is secure, youtube is secure, my start page is secure

just also had double checked my google, microsoft accounts if those everything was still alright in, no hack or anything

but if u get a virus of widevinecdm.dll its not just a norton message of download is safe, but i saw u get plenty of error messages (others had those problems before last year, and 8 years ago what i read)

which is also why i am thinking it was just a update since that ''download is safe message by norton'' appeared the moment i started my web browser again

also to clarify, i don't go on dark web, and i have never ever visited porn websites and i never will (i only read bad things about those how it compromises your computer)

also my internet security, well i got wired not wifi (because i also don't trust wifi how exposed you are then)
