So I’ve been talking to a girl for ages I’ve known her for years. Last few weeks she’s been saying she loves me and wants to spend the rest of her life with me but then today out of the blue she said that she doesn’t want a relationship at the moment. So have I just been friend zoned or has she just been messing me around?

I wouldn't say friend zoned because that would imply she only wants to be friends with you. What you're describing is a girl who in general doesn't want a relationship at the moment. If I were you I'd just wait for it to pan out and not overthink it

The phrase friend-zone is problematic.
But it's possible these feelings became too much and she doesn't want to rush into anything. That's understandable and you should respect that. If it's meant to be then it'll happen in time. Don't force something that she's uncomfortable with. |

I'm not sure if the right thing is sticking a "friend zone" label to it. It's painting it in one color, but things are more complicated than that.
Maybe she has her doubts/fears/confused about having a relationship in general or specifically turning your long-time friendship into a relationship? Did she say she loves you in a joking way? did she mean she loves you or likes you as a friend?

I think the younger you are (I don't know your age), the more likely it is to happen. When the husband and I first got together (I was 18), he dragged his feet on calling it a relationship though we called each other frequently and leaned on each other for emotional support. It was definitely a relationship, but for him it was difficult to call it that at the time since he was going through a lot at the time in his personal life. We took our time getting married too. I think if they are worth it, wait a good bit and be patient. Either way, give them enough space it work it out on their own. If they aren't being upfront to a certain enough point that you can reasonably say a relationship is being built, then you have to draw your own conclusions and that may mean cutting your losses and moving on. |

I’ve stopped messaging her. I told that I’m going to give her space and see how she feels in a few weeks

At this point not necessarily. If she now goes and gets into a relationship with some other random then yes.
