When Shane J opens his mouth he always mentions his personal background. Ann doesn't constantly say "I'm a single Catholic with no kids " . Amanda didn't keep going on about being in a civil partnership and a atheist Last edited by GoldHeart; 02-02-2018 at 11:58 AM. |

None because she's not actually in power, but in a position of power she would gladly get rid of gay marriage, raise the age of consent, and ban abortions. She also supported section 28 which banned the mention of homosexuality in schools.

It's the old question again: Do you identify people according to type? Or as individuals? Wise Amanda was all about the individual. She knows it's the key to acceptance and peace between different people. |

She is not in power and never will be,plus a lot of people hold the same opinions ,how are you going to shut them all down ? as long as they don't force you to believe what they do,what's the problem

She sees marriage as a religious institution that recognises the sanctity of male/female union - sacred because it produces human life. Obviously two people of the same gender cannot produce human life so she sees no reason to change the definition of marriage to accommodate something that is not possible by those religious terms. As for abortions: again i am not religious but the Catholic church believe that life begins at conception. So to them, abortions are like killing babies. That's why she called herself 'defender off the unborn' I can't say for sure when life begins - at conception or later on during pregnancy so i don't quite know what to think on this. There is no reason why gay people who love each other cannot have a fully legal relationship, equal to any legal straight partnership, but in terms of the religious definition of marriage as a sacred union between those who produce human life, i can see why religious people think that way - but i am not religious so it means nothing to me. |

I do believe he has good intentions and that he believes thoroughly in what he's saying - and there's nothing wrong about his message.
But I can't help but think that as much as he loves his messages, he loves the sound of his own voice even more. Funny thing, until India said it yesterday, I didn't notice that he's overdoing his message like she did hers. We get it, gay rights are a positive thing and Ann's approach is terrible - but you don't need to go on and on and on about it. He truly feels like he's the beacon of all things right, and I wonder if this is all that he can think and talk about. I don't like Ann's opinions on things, but I do find myself rolling my eyes whenever he says idioms like "I'm not ashamed of my body!", "I'm not ashamed of a friendship between two men", with the undertone of "I'm wonderful and you need to take a leaf out of my book". Can you speak like a normal human being and not jump from one cliche to another?

Does he need to have a message? I usually tune out when he goes on about LGBTQWERTY but I never got the impression he has an actual message, beyond representing what he sees as a positive example of a gay person.

Speaking to my gay mates, he makes them cringe with all this self-appointed voice of the community business. Kind of enforces the gay stereotype of a 'preachy overtly-sexual drag queen' when the real message required is 'gays are as normal as the rest of us'. Being gay doesn't have to mean being outrageous and in your face. It's also why a lot of gays cringe at gay pride. All that OTT gyrating in shiny pink pants. Not exactly normalising. |

So this thread basically boils down to 'you're intolerant if you don't accept Ann's intolerance!' and the downplaying of Ann's crusade against the gays.

His message is simple: EQUALITY. Equality not special treatment. Equality for men, women and the LGBT Community. It's simple really.
