Default Elders and Millenials?

Would this be a good theme for BB19?

Funny you say this, I was thinking a similar thing

Also hey guys! New to the forum! Been reading for a while but finally joined because I wanted to post.

But yes, I was thinking a similar thing. The tweets the Auditions account sent out was heavily to unis and students unions and, conversely, sports clubs which were obviously related an older audience (I think it was bowls? but could be wrong). My initial thoughts were that this theme could be Old vs New, or something in that vein, but now I think it could be more like Big Brother: Generations instead? Clearly following CBB they want debate, and the difference between Ann and Shane in age was somewhat a reason for their conflicting beliefs. In the wake of Brexit, and after a failed attempt last year with The United Kingdom of Big Brother, it makes sense to me that they'd want to capitalise on the difference between those of a millennial age and those who are older in terms of views and opinions, especially in relation to that state of Britain at the moment. Essentially, this series could well be 'woke vs unwoke'. With 'Generations', it's also a big enough umbrella to allow all sorts off tasks and twists. Former housemates could easily return, as with TimeBomb, and the decor could echo previous houses. Maybe even, if they were to take the theme further, have different rooms echos different decades? As a potential send off, it would be beyond ideal for producers. They have enough free reign to go back to basics, but also to spice it up enough that it might attract a 'younger' audience, and can cram enough nostalgia in if they do decide to see it off to appease viewers who've stuck with the show from day 1.

No. "Themes" never work, and are trash.

If they actually had a good casting process of casting varied housemates it would be great. As it is, they just scout people who've already had sex on another TV show.

Welcome to the forum!

I agree with everything you’ve said there. Starting with CBB21 they seem to be going with a theme that tackles issues, so for Year Of The Woman it was about tackling gender stereotypes and I think for BB19 they’ll do a age/generation thing to tackle age stereotypes

Thank you Jordi!

Yeah exactly, it just makes sense. If the show is gonna be talked about they need debate, and like I said in the wake of Brexit the age divide is the subject of much discussion. It'd be easy to fit within a theme, too. I quite like the idea of going back to basics, but that seems an extreme move given the themes of the previous years. I don't think a Celeb series that received mild critical acclaim is going to make them abandon a theme altogether, especially given the (fairly) strict themes of recent series. They have to market the show, after all, and they're wanting those ratings, whether it be to potentially prove that the show has legs for another channel or so that they go out on a high. Something like 'Generations' would be pretty much perfect in my opinion. As a fan of Big Brother that of any other theme would probably be most exciting to me, not sure about you guys...

I'm against themes, I think they do it to spark an interest in a casual viewer to try and trick them into thinking its gonna be something new to what theyve seen before, but the only theme that would actually work would be Big Brother: No Producer Manipulation. But like channel 5 so na.

Thank you! I think I sorted it now, but you'll have to let me know on your end? Just didn't want to seem like a total random weirdo haha who was only posting on the one post!

Yeah I've been lurking since mid-Jan probably? Not sure why I haven't created an account sooner because I'm looking into what's going on with the casting and theme every day and I love hearing what you guys have to say about the upcoming series. Don't want to jinx anything, but I have a heavy interest in the new series put it that way.

It's just nice to know people are as into the show as I am! I'm only 20, early channel 4 stuff (while I know all the 'iconic'/basic stuff) is a bit before my time, but I love the show and understand all the problems people typically have with it. Even before this forum the fame hungry folks who managed to get on bothered me. Big Brother is a social experiment for me and always will be, it's why I love it so much, and all I can ever ask for is some 'normal' people to take part.

Actually that might be good, but I hope they put a range of ages .

It would be tacky like how they did girls vs boys on CBB21.

Welcome to the forum Charlie!

I personally want diverse casting, in ages and races (though I know BB18's cast is very racially diverse).

Though I don't want any more themes please, I don't want another Timebomb/Power Trip season because both of them were terrible!

I hate that term. I'm 32 and am officially confirmed as a millennial. I'm a grown arse man from 1985....im Marty mcfly ffs! Terrible idea it would be boring as ****.

No more "vs" themes.....or themes tbh.

I don't really want a theme. I just want them to put a variety of ages in there. They do it for CBB but rarely for BB it's weird.

It depends how it's done, would be funny having intelligent older people and by older I mean over 30 .

But then again the youngsters would probably be all immature and annoying 18 - 21 year olds .

Not sure about that concept, but I'd like to see a more mature cast, along the lines of CBB21. For classless chavs I can switch to LI/EOTB/etc (and I'm not) - they should stick to what BB can deliver that no other show can. You can have controversial hms and big arguments without scrapping the barrel of the British people.

They'll never do a mature cast , the oldest will probably only be 35years old .

I think most of the housemates should be over 30 and older . But they'll put silly 18 year olds who behave like Geordie shore I just know it

It doesn't have to be mature age-wise - but starting with them being normal people and not like a clone of the same old GS gang. They managed to do it quite well in CBB21, I'd like to think this will be the archetype for BB19.
