I read that Cherie. Bloody awful. That poor dog and it’s owner. I hope she sues the attendant as it was not airline policy. Maybe the attendant didn’t like dogs. Shameful.

Obviously this is horrible and incredibly sad and I hope the worker who insisted the dog be stored as luggage is punished but why did the owner not once check on the dog? I understand it says the infant needed attention but what responsible owner would not check on their dog?

Don't get that either or why didn't another passenger ask about the dog, or offer to check or why didn't she ask an attendant to check on it...

I didn't think dogs were allowed on board only in the luggage compartments in a suitable crate ? but I guess it must be,but to leave a dog in an overhead compartment is madness, I hope whoever is responsible for this gets the book thrown at them .

In the witnesses social media post she said the dog was barking and crying for a while and then fell silent. I have no idea why not one person in that seating area spoke up either.

Very sad story either way a little 10 month old pup

According to UA's policy pets are allowed in the cabin they must be in a carry on cage, nothing at all about putting them in storage compartments on their website. You're changed $125 for it though.

'United allows domesticated cats, dogs, rabbits and household birds (excluding cockatoos) to travel accompanied in the aircraft cabin on most flights within the U.S. An in-cabin pet may be carried in addition to a carry-on bag and is subject to a $125 service charge each way. There is an additional $125 service charge for each stopover of more than four hours within the U.S. or more than 24 hours outside of the U.S.'

https://www.united.com/web/en-US/con.../in_cabin.aspx

No way would my dog have gone in the overhead compartment, if I'd had to have got off the plane.

United Airlines though... what a bloody shower.

This is horrible and completely unnecessary. Presumably the dog suffocated.

I also wouldn't have put my dog in the overhead locker, but I'm also aware that many people do have somewhat of a lack of common sense. Also, in that situation, they are lead to believe that the people working there and telling them what to do know best so they probabaly just followed their instructions thinking it happens all the time - very bery sad story

WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL USING THIS COMPANY FFS

Such cruelty, I don't understand how that airline is still in business, last year they were attacking people and dragging them off plans and this year they're killing dogs.

****ing awful company, I hope the owners sue for every penny.

In all seriousness though, surely we have to put some of the blame on the owner? I mean... There's being TOLD to put your dog in an overhead compartment, and then there's... Actually doing it...

Perhaps the owner had trouble understanding the consequences of putting a live animal into and airtight compartment, but what was wrong with the people sitting in that vicinity to say nothing and not check it was ok,as for the Airline,I have no words.

Surely if the dog was in the plane and not in the hold it must have been some kind of therapy dog? Whatever... the dog was going to suffocate and anyone on that plane near enough to see what was happening should have known it.

Awwwww..... My friend Alice has a French bulldog called Hugo... he is the sweetest little thing. I thought you had to be a clear thinker if you were cabin crew. Clearly not.

Yes it seems it was the staff who kept telling her to put it in the overhead baggage, well I would have refused, but this woman probably thought they knew what they were doing

It's truly disgusting and I would not let this go if that pup were mine.it doesn't look as though it was even in a cage or box.

The poor little thing. That's disgusting. Whoever is responsible should be jailed. People get away with doing things to animals they would never get away with doing to a human being; as if animals can't feel distress and pain. It makes me so damn mad.
