Default School gate mum kills gunman dead

Full video in link

School gate mum kills gunman: Off-duty armed policewoman who was walking with her daughter shoots dead attacker trying to rob young children and families outside a school in Brazil

Dramatic footage shows the robber tumbling backwards after being shot by the quick-thinking mother-of-two
  • Military police officer Katia da Silva Sastre, 42, rounded on the gunman
  • Shooter has been identified as 21-year-old man Elivelton Neves Moreira
  • The suspect died later the same day in hospital from his injuries
  • Officer Sastre commended for her actions despite the 'regrettable' outcome
  • She was honored for her bravery by Sao Paulo's governor Márcio França Sunday

This is the moment a gunman's attempted robbery on young children and families was foiled by a waiting mother - who turned out to be an off-duty armed policewoman.

Dramatic security footage shows a suspect named as Elivelton Neves Moreira, 21, approaching the crowd with a gun outside a private school in Sao Paulo.

But his attempted crime backfired when military police officer Katia da Silva Sastre, 42, pulled out her own weapon and unleashed three shots. (the Perp died later in the hosp)

The video shows Moreira, who later died in hospital, falling backwards and clutching his chest before Sastre shoves him on to his front with her foot having thrown her handbag aside on Saturday morning.

Officer Sastre is being hailed a hero for her act of bravery and was honored in a ceremony by Sao Paulo Governor Márcio França on Sunday

Great reactions from the cop and thank goodness she had her weapon and took dead aim to immediately take the perp out. A positive cop story doing the rounds.

Hmmmm oviously the right action in this case - but I can see US gun advocates using this to argue for why armed school run mums are a good idea in the United States, as if the US is anything like Brazil. It isn't, and certainly shouldn't aspire to be .

In terms of murder rates, cities in Brazil make up 7 of the top 20, and 17 of the top 50. More than any other country by a significant margin. Also way up there in terms of general firearm-related crime.

Can't say that I condone or celebrate any killing. Life is just not the same here as it is in places like Brazil, so taking events from there and putting them on a pedestal is pretty meaningless.
