Default 95-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder over death of carer

[A 95-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a carer died in hospital with head injuries.
Scotland Yard detectives believe the 61-year-old woman was injured at a house in Islington, north London, where she was working.
Police were called to the property at roughly 7.10am on Thursday before the woman was taken to a north London hospital.
She died from her injuries at roughly 11am on Friday.]

Now a real old man
appears to have killed his carer.
This case is sad.

According to the report he is frail and needs a walking stick and she died of head injuries so the obvious suspicion is that he has hit her with it, but then there's the question of strength and mobility.

It's puzzling.

No doubt all will be revealed but it's tragic alright - for all concerned.

He might have pushed her and if she was off balance she fell and cracked her head on something, or maybe it was an accident and she fell of her own accord, tragic either way

If he does, as is likely, he is not accountable as would not have understood what he was doing.

No and maybe it will set a precedent that in some situations a carer should not be working alone and that should be done to protect both parties

Feel incredibly sorry for the carer and her family and the old fella too really.

Agreed. I have a member in my family who had her walking stick removed in case she used it as a weapon as aggression is a common symptom of dementia due to confusion. She no longer knows those closest to her and cannot understand general conversation most of the time. I think two people are needed in that situation for a miriad of reasons.

Dementia does not always absolve them of blame. And age does not necessarily mean they will have dementia either.

My mother works with people with various stages of dementia and a fair few of her patients know what they are doing at least some of the time, usually more often than that. She actually has an ex boxer on her ward, who broke my mother hand not long ago, and a colleagues nose not long afterwards. Along with numerous black eyes and such. Yet still knows what he is doing most of the time and honestly, is just a horrible twat for the sake of it. yes, he is also ill, abnd will probably get worse too. But getting worse may actually make him less dangerous, as he actively chooses to attack now. He may well not attack at all once his mind is gone and the choice is removed from him.
Best wait to find out the actual facts before removing the blame tbh

What I do agree with, is that home based carers should be in 2s, not on their own.

But even being surrounded by staff does not prevent attacks. My mother is black and blue much of the time (though had serious injuries very rarely, until this guy was brought onto her ward). And there is never less than 10 staff on the ward at a time.
