Yes of course ,much harder
as some rubble could fall on them,
so maybe not so close to the mound they are safe on.

Great news on the find, I say give them a crash course in diving and get them the heck out before the weather turns.

So proud to be British when I heard it was Brits who found them
This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that makes me patriotic!

This is great news and is - as LT pointed out - reminiscent of the Chilean mining disaster rescue.

It's just so risky though. It's not just normal diving like scuba diving, it's using rebreathers which really are for experienced divers, and in dark, cramped conditions. Some of these kids are as young as 12... If they panic, which is a huge risk, they'll drown. It's almost certain that if they go this route, some of the kids will make it and others won't.

I just read that they're pumping water out of the caves right now and when they get the level low enough it'll be a lot easier for the kids to get out

I don't think Tom Daley was ever a champ, was he? I thought he just became the media's favourite because he was gay.

is a double World champion in the event; he won the 2009 FINA World Championship in the individual event at the age of 15, before regaining it in 2017

Yes thank you for that explanation, I was however aware of the danger having read the same info you have.

It's quite miraculous that they are alive, truly something to be thankful for.

It looks like it'll be a long while before they can be brought out safely as the conditions of the dive is enough to give professionals pause. I think it's probable that they'll have to remain there until the rainy season's over.

lazy and prejudiced thinking

he was media favourite years before he came out
it was because of his talent not because he was gay

There are an awful lot of variables in this, and a lot of very difficult decisions that have to be made. Unfortunately, I don't think any scenario will result in all members of the party returning safely, its a question of if they can get any back alive

also i find it questionable if that escape route is really safe, especially when that diver died when he had passed out during his way in trying to bring more oxygen to the children

maybe trying to pump the water out of the cave is a smart idea

which is what i heard this morning at our dutch breakfast news

my advice for the kids parents would be, Always have hope, keep being positive, maybe go to church to pray for their children

I fear that this is going to end very badly. Oxygen inside the cave is running low, it takes expert divers 5 hours to navigate the caves alone and some of the kids can't even swim, digging down to them seems not to be feasible, pumping water as fast as they can is barely making a difference, and with every bit of rain there's a chance of the cavern they're in flooding.

As horrendous as it may sound, they need to focus on identifying which are strong swimmers and getting as many of them out fast as they can. The rest it's literally going to be down to fate / chance, and it's probably less of a risk to try to wait it out than swim. It's really horrible.

The only realistic chance they have is to pump the water out enough so that the kids can walk out .... and do that before the rains hit. A rescue involving them diving and swimming is just not realistic.
