It’s not as if they’ve been capable of producing a top tier series with a decent length since BB13 so I’m not sure what the fuss is about?

I don't mind so long as they don't overdo it with the number of housemates and have backdoor evictions in the last week. I would rather have multiple double evictions throughout/ less housemates.

BB13 was 10 weeks long and its second half is usually seen as better than its first half so that's partly what the fuss is about

Eight weeks is enough. After CBB having a long BB is burdensome.
Keep it compact but as good as this CBB/BB17-18.
And if there are a few days left - UBB2 and let it die properly
