Default Changes to a Revived Big Brother?

What changes (whether they be new or reversions) would you like to see introduced to a revived Big Brother on a new platform?

I think, personally, detail is what matters and defines a show that is so driven by a core, cult following. With this in mind, any network looking to adopt BB has to be prepared to care about the format and it's intricacies. That said, the show does need refreshing, too. A balance is needed.

I would firstly end the Marcus narrations and possibly have Emma (or a new presenter) narrate the show in a more documentary-like style. I would also lean on the voice of Big Brother more. Marcus bellowing on eviction nights has become cringe-worthy and parodying - as his involvement overall, truthfully.

I would also look to change the live show format. I don't know how exactly the format could be changed, but I would start with possibly removing the audience. Or at least scaling back the audience and placing the set-up in a more sophisticated inside studio. The show needs to feel less tacky and brash. It has to go back to it's experiment roots - and I think scaling back the audience and set would help to reflect this.

It could be an interesting idea to have the live shows start from within an inside studio with a panel of guests / presenters. The show is introduced as usual by a main presenter (with a small audience), and the panel are seen in sight and watch the highlights show as we see it. When a contestant is evicted, they come out into this set-up and receive questions from the main host, and the panel too. It could expand on the concept of a social experiment, with participants being more fully analysed upon their exit.

The show could then transition very easily into an after-show that elaborates on what has happened - perhaps in a different studio for differentiation, and with a different presenter obviously.

A smaller, inside studio does not have to feel regressive or less exciting. The studio should be high-tech, super modern and interestingly designed. A lot of camera feeds should be projected on walls, and maybe crew members could be seen running the show. This could help to shift the focus back to the concept of experimentation. The audience should include true fans of big brother, but also family and friends of contestants... less of the filler audience members.

What do you think?

But with no crowds, there'd be no booing and that's a key part of the show for me.

A smaller crowd could still chant and jeer.

I do think, though, the booing is something that gives this show a volatile and overly brash tone. The audience sometimes feels like a baying mob... it doesn't feel in keeping with the potential of a social experiment.

Sure, people can be disliked, but for the show to keep going in today's age (where audiences want something interesting, not negative), it has to feel a little more intelligent in my opinion.

Surely though, if you want intelligent, you'd watch a documentary?

Intelligence doesn't have to equate to boring. Intelligent TV is TV that has an understanding of what it is and why it is that way.

For example, Strictly is an intelligently produced show. It is fun, light-hearted, family-focused and entertaining. It is a show that understands what it is.

When you look at a show like X Factor - and Big Brother now, too - it lacks any self-awareness. It has become a parody of itself and completely lacks intelligence. It tries to be something it isn't, and constantly falls somewhere between lightness and importance.

For Big Brother to feel more intelligent in this sense, it has to be more stripped back and stronger in it's own, original format and benefit from it's uniqueness. It has to stop trying to be a Love Island or just another reality show. It has to be Big Brother again.

- Consistent, original format. No big game-changing twists
- Normal housemates with quirky, in cases "extreme" personalities
- No outside influence

I honestly just want the social experiment concept maintained and not messed with too much.

Honestly? Short of C4 reviving the show, my ideal scenario for the show going forward is it being picked up by Netflix or the like

It would run similar to how Big Brother: Over The Top did in the US, but with a few changes. 24/7 live streaming, accompanied by three roundup episodes a week, it would adopt the US format, and the weekly live episode would take place in an indoor studio attached to the house with a much smaller audience

One thing I would like to see back was the psychologists explaining certain behaviours in the house on the Saturday episodes. I saw this a lot on BB5 & BB6 and they put across some good points on stuff I didn’t see when watching the first time.

Basically whatever C5 did for CBB22, production wise...

ITV should be considering turning BB all the way back to basics tbh

Live Feeds as a priority (not ****ty casino as priority as C5 does - for last series they could push that show back to 3am and could have given us 2-3 hours of live feeds a night)
