Everyone has an acceptability threshold that once breached forces you into action. Taylor has reached that point. The fact that she has millions of followers will no doubt force Donny into making some derogatory comment about her as he always does.

Taylor having better political views than Kanye and Trump wow
President Taylor Swift hmmm sounds pretty good, like if Trump can become president, Taylor should at least have a chance at becoming that either, at least she would be more serious than Trump, but then again anyone can be a more serious president than him i think, and also someone who is less nasty on twitter

I didn't expect her to air opinions tbh, she normally comes off as quite a plastic person normally.
Respect to her though. ![]()

If only Kanye did what he's told to do and didn't think for himself, he'd be a darling of the media too.

I disagree that the media doesn't have darlings. Most of our media is left-leaning and subsequently, have joined forces to push along the party front. That's not a secret. In Hollywood, it's not a good thing to come out as a conservative. It will cause those people to lose work. However, if they come out as left-leaning, then you gain notoriety, you become an renewed icon in a sense... if they're just a basic progressive, they don't get awarded as many points, but they do get a space on the Arc everyone is building for the coming technicolor tsunami... so there's that. Alyssa Milano didn't have so much going for her before this. Ever since #metoo, she's become a model of sorts and is in the headlines frqeuently now. I don't know Swift's reasons for coming out of the political closet, but it doesn't really matter... the media are treating us a goddess for doing so. And most celebrities are suckers for chances to gain more public adulation... it can be quite addicting that feeling, I'm sure, of being well-accepted and even "united" among their similarly adored peers. We have to remember the publishers in the media favor good versus evil story-lines... "the man" versus the underdog storylines. This has always been true, because we as human-beings can connect easily on an emotional to these narratives, and so it sells product. 2018 is basically this very old selling tactic, but turn it up a few notches. Conversely, a lot of pundits make money off this too, as it's very easy to rally people to your side in the base when you can convince them the other side is in it for purely nefarious reasoning and that they're the "brave heroes". This has become our politics. Those same folk will say Trump is trash, but then they are all emulating him with his demagoguery because they see how highly effective it is. Industry and celebrity folk have realized how much politics is a cash cow atm. It works hand-in-hand with ideals of empowerment that have been the record playing out of pop-culture for at least the past decade... and pop-culture works very closely with consumer behavior, so yes... the financial motives unfortunately play a large role in the type of media we see/consume. Anyway, our "news" isn't really news anymore... it has become much more Hollywood-esk, the grandiose behavior, the adulation, the hoards of sycophants... it is all there magnified ten-fold... but it's because in the US, Hollywood is the closest thing to a "dynasty" we will ever have. Many newsfolk want to be loved, adored and respected like those they have always admired in California... so it's really inevitable that both industries would eventually merge imo. The American culture is very individualist society with a smattering of well-ingrained rebelliousness and becoming a celebrity activist is the highest pinnacle of individualism... respected for just being you... not for being a member of the team or a civilized society. Kanye is operating in a world different from us. I do think there's other things going on there, but business-wise he could see it as cashing in on that exhausted majority. The crowd who just want to see some kind of compromise and unification reemerge after all this. He & Trump have both enjoyed a life of luxury incomparable to what most average people can probably wrap their heads around. Both I think were bit by the celebrity bug in quite a substantial way. The collection of average plebs who are there to serve to reinforce their individuality, their unique-ness (celebrity) and entertain their every whim. So I guess his ego sees bigger opportunities to grow that crowd beyond where it was prior. I suspect that's more what it is really about, his self-image being larger than life... Trump too wasn't satisfied, clearly, or he wouldn't have gone through all the trouble to run otherwise. It is somewhat timely that both Kanye & Taylor are going through a political coming out around the same time. His dragon energy maybe... or maybe just dragging in general...
