Default Friday the 13th getting reboot

Friday the 13th getting reboot after the success of Halloween

http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/hal...ees-halloween/

Following the box office success of Halloween, it now looks like Friday the 13th is set to get a reboot.

According to Bloody Disgusting, talks are under way between LeBron James' SpringHill Entertainment and IT producers Vertigo Entertainment to create a new instalment of the Jason Voorhees franchise.

Halloween's performance at the box office proves there's still a (worryingly?) strong appetite for the slasher genre, with the film raking in over $77 million in its opening weekend in North America alone.

It's the biggest ever debut for a horror film with a female lead, and also the biggest ever debut for a film with a female lead over the age of 55.

The film also has the second highest opening ever for an October release, with Venom setting the record earlier in the month.

The popularity of Halloween has no doubt inspired the Friday the 13th reboot, but another reason it's likely to go ahead is because the original writer Victor Miller has regained the rights to the screenplay.

That said, the reboot is still in the early stages and doesn't yet have a writer or director.

The original 1980 horror film was set at the fictional Crystal Camp Lake and saw a group of young counsellors picked off one-by-one by Jason's mother, who was enacting her revenge on the youngsters after her son drowned at the camp while none of them were watching him.

The new Halloween wasn't a reboot though it was a direct sequel, basically "the real" Halloween 2.

I don't see the point tbh. Can't they create a NEW character, with a NEW story?

I don't see how its a direct sequel to the first film, surely Halloween 2 has to be that seeing as it literally takes place the same night as 1 and is a continuation of the 1st film?

I haven't seen the new one yet but after all the positive reviews its getting ill definitely be checking it out.

Thank god they have erased the dog **** that was Halloween resurrection possibly the worst horror sequel since Jason x.

It was a reboot of the sequels, rather than the original.

It was never a strong enough film to warrant this

Like, the original writer being back on board means nothing...the original was terrible and quickly spun out to copy off Halloween.

The original Halloween was fantastic and that’s why it was so exciting John Carpenter was involved.

Of course, but I loved the creepiness of it and the killings were quite gory, but i've never considered it to be on the same level as Halloween. That movie (the first one) is a masterpiece.

The film originally was just a quick cash in on Halloween's success, it doesn't surprise me one bit to see the reboot taking shape after Halloween's success now. I expect the new film to be just as trash as the others.

We LOVE a slasher renaissance . I'm looking forward to a new Friday the 13th movie, the game is fun too. Apparently a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre is in the works as well since Legendary Pictures just bought the rights to it.

I quite enjoyed the new Halloween movie, I still prefer H20 as a sequel honestly but it was pretty decent and I'm glad it's doing so well at the box office.
